The hotel originally opened in October 1972 as the Americana Dutch Inn. It operated under the name until 1985 and in February 1986 it became the Grosvenor Resort. The hotel operated as Best Western Grosvenor for a number of years. On September 1, 2007, the property changed its name to Regal Sun Resort as part of a $25 million renovation. The hotel changed names again on November 20, 2010 when it became Wyndham Lake Buena Vista, operated by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.
Originally an exterior hotel, and in 1986 a tower section was added in the center of the hotel, which added additional guest rooms with interior access (some providing a Downtown Disney view), meeting space and restaurants. The hotel has meeting space and features a fitness center and two swimming pools.
