"Work Song (Cinderelly, Cinderelly)" (also known as "Cinderelly") is a song written and composed by Mack David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston for the film Cinderella. It is sung by Jaq, Gus, and other mice.
The mice also sang a variant offscreen for The Pre-Opening Report from Disneyland.
Context[]
All the women in the kingdom have been invited to a ball at the castle, and Lady Tremaine allows Cinderella to attend it, provided that she gets all her work done and has a nice dress by then. Cinderella thinks about fixing up her mother's old dress and wearing it to the ball, before her stepfamily calls her down to serve them. Jaq, knowing full-well that they're going to run her ragged before she can have time to improve the dress, laments that it'll be impossible for her to go to the ball. Then, one of the mice gets the idea for them all to fix up the dress while she's working and surprise Cinderella later that evening.
The song is also used as a leitmotif for whenever Cinderella has to work for her stepfamily. At times, the "how lovely it would be..." section, which is not sung, is heard instrumentally.
Lyrics[]
Jaq: "Poor Cinderelly. Every time she find a minute, that's the time when they begin it! Cinderelly! Cinderelly!"
Anastasia and Drizella: "CINDERELLA!"
Jaq: Cinderelly Cinderelly
Night and day it's Cinderelly
Make the fire!
Fix the breakfast!
Wash the dishes!
Do the mopping!
Girl Mice: And the sweeping and the dusting!
They always keep her hopping!
Jaq: She go around in circles till she very, very dizzy
Still they holler...
Girl Mice: keep-a busy Cinderelly!
Jaq: "Yeah, keep-a busy. You know what? Cinderelly not go to the ball."
Mary: "What?"
Mouse 2: "Not go?"
Mice: "What did you say?"
Jaq: "You'll see. They fix her. Work, work, work. She'll never get her dress done."
Gus: "P-P-P-Poor Cinderelly."
Mary: "Hey! We can do it!"
We can do it, we can do it,
We can help-a Cinderelly
We can make a dress so pretty
There's nothing to it really.
Mice: We'll tie a sash around it
Pull a ribbon through it
When dancing at the ball
She'll be more beautiful than all
In the lovely dress we'll make for Cinderelly
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry
Gotta help-a Cinderelly
Got no time to dilly dally
We gotta get-a going
Gus: I'll cut it with these scissors
Jaq: And I can do the sewing
Mary: Leave the sewing to the women
You go get some trimming
Mice: And we'll make a lovely dress for Cinderelly
Oh, we'll make a lovely dress for Cinderelly!
Cinderella, Cinderella!
All I hear is "Cinderella!"
From the moment that I get up
Till shades of night are falling.
There isn't any letup. I hear them calling, calling.
"Go up and do the attic and go down and do the cellar!
You can do them both together, Cinderella!"
How lovely it would be
If I could live my fantasy,
But in the middle of my dreaming,
They're screaming
At me!
Cinderella, Cinderella!
All I hear is "Cinderella!"
From the moment that I get up
Till shades of night are calling.
There isn't any letup. I hear them calling, calling.
"Go up and do the attic and go down and do the cellar!
You can do them both together, Cinderella!"
Men: Cinderella, Cinderella, Cinderella, Cinderella
Cinderella!
Woods: Oh, dear.
Cinderella, Cinderella!
Night and day it's "Cinderella!"
I'm as busy as a spider
Who's working for his dinner
The rooms are getting wider, my hopes are getting thinner
I'm always in a flurry, they will tell me "not to worry
Take your time, but Hurry, Hurry Cinderella!"
How lovely it would be
If I could live my fantasy, (Ooohhh)
But in the middle of my dreaming,
They're screaming
At me! (Hurry, Hurry, Hurry, Hurry, Cinderella!)
Cinderella, Cinderella! All I hear is
Men: Cinderella! Take a mop and mop the ocean
And give the stars a dusting
The fringes on the hinges
In Heaven need adjusting
Woods: I go around in circles and I don't know what my aim is
All I know is that my name is Cinderella
Men: You seem to have a case
A problem very hard to face
Woods: Each time I start in with my dreaming
They're screaming
At me!
Woods: Cinderella! Cinderella! Cinderella! Cinderella!
Men: Cinderella! Cinderella!
Woods: Oh Rella, Rella Rella
Men: Oh Cinderella rella
Woods: Oh Rella Cinderella
Men: Oh cinderella
Woods: Rella
Men's: Cinderella
Woods: Rella Rella
Both: Cinderella, Cinderlla, Cinderella
(Cinderella, Cinderella, Cinderella)
Male Solo: Cinderella!
Woods: Alright, I'm coming.
(Cinderella, Cinderella, Cinderella)
Mice: What's the hurry? What's the worry?
Why the bustle and the hustle?
Why oh why the concentration?
And sudden inspiration?
Jaq: It's because the date's been planned
To open Disneyland
Mice: The front two gates are set up
And there can't be any let-up
We must do our best to finish altogether!
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry
There's no time to sit and worry
Check the castle, fill the lake
Forsee for goodness sake
Jaq: Make a rocket that's exciting
Gus: A boat trip that's inviting
Mice: The time is ticking fast
And we've got to finish fast
'Cause we'll be there when they open Disneyland!
