"When Will My Life Begin" is Rapunzel's title song, featured in the hit Disney 2010 animated feature Tangled. The song was composed by Alan Menken with the lyrics by Glenn Slater. The song was sung by Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, as well as the reprises. However, the first reprise is not in the movie and is only found on the Tangled soundtrack.
The song is about Rapunzel who's bored staying in the tower because everyday she's just doing the same thing. The song is played while Rapunzel does her chores, which can be called "a Working Song".
Lyrics
7 A.M., the usual morning lineup
Start on the chores and sweep 'til the floor's all clean
Polish and wax, do laundry, and mop and shine up
Sweep again, and by then it's like 7:15!
And so I'll read a book
Or maybe two or three
I'll add a few new paintings to my gallery'
I'll play guitar and knit
And cook and basic'ly
Just wonder when will my life begin?
Then after lunch it's puzzles and darts and baking
Paper mache, a bit of ballet and chess
Pottery and ventriloquy, candle making
Then I'll stretch, maybe sketch, Take a climb, sew a dress!
And I'll reread the books
If I have time to spare
I'll paint the walls some more
I'm sure there's room somewhere
And then I'll brush and brush
and brush and brush my hair
Stuck in the same place I've always been
And I'll keep won'drin and won'dring'
And won'dring and won'dring'
When will my life begin?
And tomorrow night
The lights will appear
Just like they do on my birthday each year
What is it like
Out there where they glow?
Now that I'm older
Mother might just
Let me go...
I've got my mother's love,
I shouldn't ask for more.
I've got so many things
I should be thankful for.
Yes, I have everything
Except, I guess, a door.
Perhaps it's better that I stay in.
But tell me, when will my life begin?
Just 24 hours 'til my birthday.
One day, to the day I'm 18.
The day, which I guess,
Will be spent, more or less,
Like the last, oh, 6000 I've seen…
