What's up, guys? Tigerfan45 here, and I'm back again. As we all know, the disney sequels (particularly the direct-to-video ones) aren't very popular, particularly amongst fans of their big-screen predecessors. However, there are some good Disney animated sequels, and I'm making a list of the 10 best ones. I will later make a list of the bad ones, but for now, here are the good ones. Enjoy!
This movie is slightly better than the first. While I like how most of the original cast return for their roles, I wish Joaquin Phoenix would have reprised his role as Kenai. I found it interesting that Mandy Moore (the voice of Rapunzel)did the voice of Nita in this movie, she did a very good job. The reason this is so low on the list is because I find the songs unmemorable compared to the original, and the generic story. The animation is very good in this, and the movie is well-paced. If you liked Brother Bear, I think you will like this, however, if you didn't like the first movie, this one is not gonna sway you.
This is one of few Disney sequels that got a theatrical release outside of Pixar. However, I will agree with the film's haters that the film has a direct-to-video feel. Right down to Jane, Wendy's daughter taking over for Wendy (that is a bit of the custom with direct-to-video Disney sequels). I like the story, I think that Jane is a very well-developed character, and Captain Hook is funny as always. Though I still prefered the crocodile to the octopus! If you liked the first movie, I guess you'll like this fine.
I thought that the cast did a very good job in this, particularly Adam West, Susanne Blakeslee, and Jason Alexander. The songs for the most part were original. Though, unlike Return to Never Land, I don't like how the villain is one that we've already had. The animation was ok in this, but could have been better. If you're a 101 Dalmatians fan, check it out.
I thought that this film had a very good story. While this movie, isn't all that great, it at least made the list for not ruining the original for other Mulan fans, like my good friend, Betep Stone. I felt that the story was very original. The voice acting was very good in this. However, I did not like the idea of Mushu trying to break Mulan and Shang up, which made me dislike him in this movie, which is a shame because I did like him in the original. Other than that, the characters, old and new, are fairly likeable. I'm glad I saw it, though I'm not sure if I'll see it again.
tie between Bambi II and Cinderella III: A Twist in Time
I was unsure if i could fit these onto the list or not, so I put them in the same spot. Bambi II was okay for me, I felt that the characters were still the same for the most part, and I felt that most of the songs were good. However, I felt that the animation was nowhere near as good as the original film. Cinderella III I felt that, while it wasn't as good as the first one, it wasn't as bad as the second one. I like how this movie was actually a legitimate story and not just bits from a failed TV show. I liked seeing Anastasia reform at the end. Both films are worth a watch.
Now, this was actually the first of the Aladdin movies I ever watched when I was little. I loved the songs in this, particularly the ones with the forty thieves. I also liked how Robin Williams returned to voice Genie. The climax is one of my favorites in Disney history. Just like with Cinderella III I thought that this was better than the second one, but not as good as the first one. If you liked the first movie, I say check it out. It's a real party in Agrabah.
Yes, people. Like you, I think this one is even better than the original. I liked the song "When She Loved Me". Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like Toy Story 3, it's just that i've never seen that one in its entirity. I thought that Woody's dilemna is very well written in this movie. By the way, this is the only Pixar sequel on the list. I like how this movie tries more jokes. If you're a fan of the first movie, you will get a kick out of this.
This is another rare non-Pixar Disney sequel that got a theatrical release. I thought that the segments were very good, and I liked how each had its own unique animation style. My favorite segments in this are "Pines of Rome", "The Firebird Suite", and "Donald's Ark". The only nitpick I had with this was the celebrity hosts. But other than that, Fantasia 2000 is definitely worth a watch.
This is a Disney Sequel that I think is highly underrated! The animation is beyond impressive, and the flying scenes are gorgeous! So what if it doesn't have songs or isn't a fairy tale? That doesn't mean it's bad! This is so much better than the first movie! The characters are very likable, and the villain is a great villain. Check it out folks! It won't disappoint.
and the title for "best Disney sequel is...
a tie between The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and The Lion King 1 1/2
With these two, I was actually relieved by the fact that it turned out to be a good film, since I'm such a big fan of the original. Both have good animation, good songs and a good stories, though the original "lion king" was superior to them both. My favorite song from "Simba's pride" is "We are One". Though, with 1 1/2, I would have liked more original songs. Not that "Digga Tunna" and "That's All I Need" were bad, it's just that I'd have liked more original songs. Aside from that, The Lion King 1 1/2 I found to be very entertaining, a lot of really good in-jokes in it. For both, I say that if you liked The Lion King, I think you will like these.
And those are my opinions on the Disney sequels that I think are good. Did you agree with any of my choices? Disagree? Stay tuned for the "bad sequels" list. Until then, this is Tigerfan45, see you around!
