So the other day I was browsing Pinterest and I came across this interesting theory.
Frozen Theory, Part 2: Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the directors of Frozen, confirmed during a reddit AMA that Elsa and Anna's parents were indeed heading to a wedding when their boat sank. According to Chris, however, they didn't die on that boat. They washed up on the shore of a jungle and the queen later "gave birth to a baby boy" and built "a treehouse" before getting "eaten by a leopard." Sound familiar? That's the beginning of the Disney movie Tarzan. So if this theory is correct, Tarzan is the son of the king and queen of Arendelle and the long-lost brother of Elsa and Anna. Of course, Chris could have just made that up on the spot, but we're choosing to believe it. Don't let go of that childlike wonder, guys! At first I wanted to believe it. Really badly. These are two of my favorite Disney movies. But then I started looking at the facts. And found that this theory is ridiculous, and the fact that some people blindly accept it is even more ridiculous! So here is my post debunking this theory. Maybe some points have already been pointed out, but I feel like writing them anyway. If you don't want to read it, that's fine. I won't care. But it's not true.
First of all is their appearance. The obvious reason why this doesn't work. The king's hair is blonde. Clearly blonde. And Tarzan's dad's hair is deep brown. Also, Tarzan's father has a thick mustache and the king does not. Even if they had the same hair color, it would be impossible for the king to grow such a thick mustache in such a short period of time. If you remember from Frozen, Anna said "See you in two weeks," to her parents. We
don't know when the ship sank, if it was on the voyage there or the return, but such a great mustache in 2 weeks? Impossible. So while the head shape and physical features of the king and Tarzan's dad are the same, they are clearly not the same person. Same thing with the women. Although they are very similar when you look at it from this angle, Tarzan's mom has red hair, as you can see in the first picture. There is simply no way for hair color to change that drastically without dyeing it!
Also, Tarzan's parents have a photograph of their family. There were probably no cameras on the boat, let alone a place to develop pictures and put it in a glass frame. So this photograph must have been taken on land. But if that's so, then where are Elsa and Anna? And why are the king and queen in such plain clothes? Was their entire wardrobe not wearable that day? Not likely. Even if it was, they would have postponed taking the photograph until they had more royal attire available. Which brings me to another point. I don't know much about the time setting for these movies, but the fashion seems to be radically different. Not to mention the camera for the photograph. This suggests that the movies take place in different times, Tarzan being much later than Frozen.
Also, there's Tarzan himself. Chris says that the queen later gives birth to a baby boy. That means after the shipwreck. But in Tarzan, he is clearly a few months old at the time of the shipwreck. This is not a newborn baby. Maybe Jennifer did accidentally get the details wrong. Or maybe, since Chris worked on both Tarzan and Frozen, he was making the story similar, but not the same.
Now for the actual shipwreck(s). They are completely different. I mean com.plete.ly. In Tarzan, the ship was on fire. In Frozen, a giant wave turned the boat completely upside down and it clearly disappears from view. Also, if you believe the theory that Elsa's parents were heading to Rapunzel's wedding, how can a boat sailing from Norway to Germany (where Tangled takes place) end up in Africa? Now could the boat ended up off the coast of Denmark, where The Little Mermaid takes place? As the map shows, it's entirely possible, and one theory I believe wholeheartedly.
Already I have proved (at least in my mind) that Tarzan's family and Elsa's family are not the same. However, there is one last theory that could change all of what I have just said. So let me nicely debunk that as well. In this theory, Elsa and Anna's parents don't die right away. Instead they are blown off course. From the map at the bottom, they are blown into the Atlantic Ocean until they end up near Africa, where a fire breaks out and the ship sinks. This gives time for the hair color to change and the mustache to grow. This could also give time for the queen to give birth to Tarzan on the ship. While this scenario is plausible, it just doesn't fit.
The ship in Frozen sinks totally and completely. It never resurfaces. But let's assume it survives that storm, for the sake of argument. It would give time for the king to grow a mustache, but not darken his hair. In this picture, it says the king's hair lightens, but the reference picture is at night, when the fire casts a reddish yellow light on everything. In the day time, mere seconds later, you can clearly see he has deep brown hair. As I said before, you can't go from blonde hair to brown hair without dyeing it. The queen's hair might have lightened during the voyage, but the king's hair couldn't. It is also possible that Tarzan could have been born on the ship and even grown a little. The queen is not visibly pregnant when she boards, but it is possible she was at least 3 months along and hadn't told the girls about their new sibling yet. So assuming that Tarzan was born on time 6 months later, plus at least a month more to get to his size at the time of the shipwreck, that's 7 months since leaving Arendelle.
BUT THE SHIP WAS ONLY GOING TO BE SAILING A FEW WEEK AT MOST! It was stocked for a simple trip, not a 7 month voyage! They would not have survived that long, and certainly wouldn't be strong enough to build a treehouse upon arriving in Africa.
So there you have it. All the reasons why Tarzan's parents and Elsa and Anna's parents could not possibly be the same people. If I missed anything either supporting or debunking this theory, please comment below. And if you've made it all the way here, then congratulations! I'm impressed. This turned out to be quite a long article.
