(SPOILER WARNING)
Hey guys. I'm currently sat at home, off school, feeling sick and bored out of my mind, so I thought I'd write another blog. In this one, I'm gonna discuss my favourite villains from Disney films. When ranking these villains, I've considered how much I enjoy watching them, and how well they fit in to their film. I'm only including villains from WDAS films, so no Pixar, live action, or other stuff. Enjoy!
10) King Candy - Wreck-It Ralph[]
I've always thought of King Candy as a somewhat underrated villain. At the start, he comes across as quite silly and
fun, but ends up as a cruel, harsh murderer (well, attempted murderer). This is a very big jump, but it makes sense, and this transiton is handled very well in the film. He was funny, smart, manipulative, and at the end, he was terrifying. Also, the villain twist in this film was excellent.
9) Hades - Hercules[]
Hercules isn't one of my favourite Disney films, but Hades is certainly one of the best parts of it, simply because he
was so funny. He was very different to most villains from the renaissance era, but in a good way. I liked the way he spoke; he reminded me of a lawyer in a court case. He had sharp wit and a short temper which was always entertaining.
8) Dr Facilier - Princess and the Frog[]
Dr Facilier is another villain who I consider to be underrated. I loved watching him, simply because he was so cool.
He had charm, charisma, and an awesome song. Furthermore, I thought it was great that his shadow was his henchman. With a little more back story, Dr Facilier maybe would've made my top 5.
7) Captain Hook - Peter Pan[]
I would rank Peter Pan as one of the funniest Disney films of all time, and Captain Hook is a big reason why. His
interactions with Smee, his attempts to catch Peter Pan, whilst running from the crocodile - it was all hilarious. Captain Hook and Smee provide some of the best slapstick comedy I've ever seen.
6) Yzma - The Emperor's New Groove[]
Speaking of funny villains, here's Yzma. In my opinion, Yzma is the funniest Disney villain ever. Her and Kronk play
off each other so well, and it's really entertaining to watch. Yzma is a huge part of why I love The Emperor's New Groove.
5) Jafar - Aladdin[]
Now we're getting to my absolute favourite Disney villains. Aladdin is one of my favourite Disney films because it
brings a great mix of action, emotion, and comedy - and Jafar massively helps to provide this. He's another really funny villain, with his sarcastic humour and his interactions with Iago getting a lot of laughs. But he's also very dark and scary. He probably has the best maniacal laugh of any villain. Also, turning into a snake? That's very cool!
4) Ursula - The Little Mermaid[]
My favourite thing about Ursula is how much she loves being evil. You can tell that she enjoys it, and this provides a
lot of entertainment. She was also smart, scary, manipulative, funny, and had a great song. What's not to love?
3) Professor Ratigan - The Great Mouse Detective[]
Ratigan was very similar to Ursula in many ways: he was also funny, smart, and loved being evil - he even admits this
during the film. However, there are a couple of things that give him a slight edge over Ursula: I prefer his song, and his motivation is a little more clear.
2) Scar - The Lion King[]
Scar is probably the most popular Disney villain there is, and I can completely see why. In my opinion, he's the
smartest Disney villain. He's also very scary, manipulative, and entertaining. Furthermore, he has the best villain song.
1) Judge Claude Frollo - The Hunchback of Notre Dame[]
In my eyes, Frollo is the best Disney villain Out There (pun intended), and it's not even close. One of my favourite
things about Hunchback is its dark tone. Frollo completely sets the tone of the film, bringing themes of genocide, lust, and religious fanaticism. He just has this presence in every scene, which makes them so much better. Tony Jay's voice is chillingly brilliant. For me, his motivation (God's will) makes him so much more interesting and complex than any other villain; he believes that everything he does is what God wants. Also, his piety makes his song so much more interesting. During Hellfire, we're actually watching a deeply religious man struggling with something that he deems unholy and sinful, which is something so dark and deep for a Disney film. Frollo was simply awesome!
So that's my top 10 Disney villains. Please remember that this is MY opinion. I know a few popular ones didn't make the cut (Gaston, Maleficent etc.). Anyway, feel free to tell me your favourite villains down in the comments. Thanks for reading :)
