Hello, fellas. It is I, Cloverfield monster, back again to talk about yet another trailer. This time it's the one for the upcoming 2016 film, The Jungle Book. To be honest, I wasn't even seeking it out. I was kind of doing something else when I stumbled acrossed it but decided to watch anyway. And I was actually really surprised by how they were going about it. I was totally impressed with it.
So, yeah, the trailer just got released a few hours ago on Today, and I was surprised at what they were doing with it. Because, a few months earlier, I did an opinion piece on the other Jungle Book movie coming out by Warner Bros. called, Jungle Book: Origins . Where I said I kind of liked how that movie was supposedly going for a darker, more book-faithful version of Jungle Book, which would come out a year after this one. What I thought was going to be Disney's more goofy, light-hearted version. Basically, I thought Disney's version of 2016 would be a goofy, silly adaptation like the 60's version, while Warner Bros' film would handle all the dark and gritty stuff with their (probably) Rudyard Kipling faithful version.
But, I was wrong. Dead wrong. Fantastic Four levels of incorrect (though this obviously will be WAY BETTER than FF, but you get the idea). This movie, judging from this trailer, also looks like it's going for a dark adaptation even though it has them whistling Bare Necessities at the end. And I must say, the animals in this film must have been mutated with gamma rays or be leftover creatures from Peter Jackson's King Kong, because the animals in this are HUGE. Like King Kong-sized. It was particularly noticeable with Baloo, who seems to tower over the average bear (though not quite as smart). It was also noticeable with King Louie, where he looked Kong on steroids.
Speaking of Louie, it looks like they are pulling a Shredder with King Louie, where they take a character normally associated with being silly and campy, and making him into something scary and menacing . I'm not saying that's definitely what they are doing, but that's what it looks like from the trailer. Even the comical maniac Kaa was made kind of scary, and he (she) is being voiced by Scarlett Johansson of all people.
So overall, I was really impressed with this trailer. I'm eager to see how it turns out. I will also be doing a review on the trailer for the other Jungle Book move once they show that, too. So, what did you think of this? Do you think it's good or not. Tell me. Tell me NOW!!!
