Hello, friends, Cloverfield monster here. Well, the next installment of the DC Extended Universe is coming our way in August. It's called Suicide Squad. It features The Joker, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc and some other guys who's names I do not know, having to team up to save the world (yeah, we're doomed). This is no superhero movie. It's a superVILLAIN movie. But, this is nothing new. Other films have had the villains take the main spotlight. So, in honor of Suicide Squad's upcoming release, here are some of my favorite films that do this.
Everyone's heard of Despicable Me. The film that started it all, created a charismatic villain everybody loves and made the world COMPLETELY obsessed with crazy little yellow people, the film is about Gru, a world-infamous supervillain who plans to steal the moon and become the greatest villain of all time. Until 3 girls enter his world and start to make him change his mind and his heart. This is actually one of my favorite non-Disney animated films. And the funny thing is me personally, while everyone was going crazy over the minions and rightfully so, for me, I found Gru's silly accent to be one of the best things in the movie. The film had some good action and a lot of heart. So, yeah, Despicable Me is Steve Carrell at his finest people.
This film caused a lot of controversy. A lot of people weren't happy about the idea that they "made Maleficent soft." But, me, I was actually fine with this film. I enjoyed it. The effects were wonderful and I liked the dynamic between Maleficent and Auora. I'm honestly not sure what else I can say considering this movie was probably talked about to death by other users. Though, if I had one criticism, I didn't like the idea that Maleficent was incapable of turning into a dragon and they made the crow turn into a dragon. I mean, like...why? But, that really wasn't enough to obliterate my enjoyment of the film.
Megamind. This film is awesome. While some people questioned why we would need this film considering we had Despicable Me, I'd say it was worth it. Will Ferrell nailed it as the blue villain Megamind. As I prevously stated on my list of films that should get sequels, I wondered why this never got one considering it made a good amount of money and received good reviews from critics. Sure, it wasn't Shrek 2 money, but it was good enough. I also found it interesting how the awkward nerd, Hal Stewart, the absolute last guy you'd expect to become the villain, ends up being the villain as Titan. So, yeah, I really like this film and Dreamworks. PLEASE make a sequel. And that's my list of my favorite films with villain protagonists. Do you agree with this list? If not, what would YOU add instead? And do you think Suicide Squad will be good? Why or why not? Don't be shy. Tell me in the comment box below.
