Mcbasilrocks: OK, so I got in touch with a Mr. Adam Fenton, who was responsible for most of the concept art of Epic Mickey 2, and thus would have a sizable knowledge about the game's past. Throughout the previous few months, several suspicions have begun to arise on this forum about the game being chainsawed in half, with incomplete plot points, and of course the infamous Epilogue message that instructs you to 'use the turnstile to open a way forward'. With this in mind, I contacted Mr. Fenton via the comments page on one of his EM2 drawings. I left him my email, asking all sorts of questions about EM2, and soon after he responded with the following message (note: the original message contained all sorts of grammatical inaccuracies which I have corrected for the sake of easier reading; the text's content, however, remains completely unchanged and as Mr. Fenton wrote it). He also attached some concept art which hasn't yet been made public on his site, Fenton Designs, so I'd check it out before Disney gets wind and forcibly removes it. Here is his response in full:
'Thank you for your enquiry. Now that Junction Point is down, yes, it probably is the right time to tell all. In the beginning, when I was first hired at Junction Point, Epic Mickey 2 was being kept relatively secret. Several ideas were thrown around, but the plot point that was finally settled on was my idea for the earthquakes and the Blotworx. As such, I designed the various Blotworx images you see here, most of which were rejected. In the original, we were going to have a much bigger, emotional plotline. Pete was going to have been helping out the Mad Doctor, acting as a spy on Mickey and Oswald. The Blotworx were going to be a result of a failed experiment by the Mad Doctor, and there was going to be this huge thing about the Mad Doctor siding with you halfway through to help stop them. As for Prescott, as my concept art shows, he was going to play a bigger role (I think one early script actually had him falling to his death!).

However, the weird Tiki thing he pops out of would have been what caused the earthquakes, as my concept art shows. Forget all the stuff about a TV show, I can tell you truthfully that that was a 'creative decision' on the part of Warren Spector once he realised that we couldn't finish the game in time. I remember this huge hullabaloo when he announced that - it was crazy. Concept art redesigns, voice re-recordings, it was one messy operation by the end, and that's why, and I can say this now that I've been sacked, the game is the sloppy, nonsensical mess that it is.
As for the Epilogue, that was actually a coding mistake, made by Junction Point's programming department. It wasn't until we were mass-producing that we found that turnstile text in the coding, but by that point it was too late. So yeah, I can honestly tell you that you were gypped out of what really looked like it was turning out to be an epic adventure.

So, this answers quite a few questions:-
- The Epilogue is not doable. Reputable Gamespot users such as katydiddd have sacrificed veritable chunks of their lives trying to figure it out, but it was never meant to be there in the first place (well, technically it was, but you get what I mean.)
- The story is incomplete. Mr. Fenton hints at a much bigger, better plotline that might have been on par with the original Epic Mickey. But we now know for sure that it was time constraints that led to its downfall.
- The Petes were never meant to be a 'sequel hook'. They were going to be a part of the story. But, as we know, Junction Point is kaput, so we'll never get to see what happens.
- Junction Point's 'programming department', as he calls it, made several mistakes. That would account for the game's unplayability, camera issues, slowdown and general unpolished-ness.

Updated: The rumor has now been confirmed. Junction Point Studio closed its doors.
"Epic Mickey developer Junction Point Studio closed its doors, a Disney representative confirmed to Polygon today. The Disney-owned Austin, Tex.-based studio employed about 160 people in early 2012.
"It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios," a representative for the company told Polygon. "These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We're extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2."
In an interview with Polygon last year, Spector said he saw a future in connectivity between smartphones and traditional gaming platforms.
"I make the games I want to make," he said. "I'm going to continue to do that. Anybody who doesn't work for Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo, who isn't thinking about 'How do I get a billion people with an Android, iOS or Microsoft phone in their pocket? How do they interact with my hardware?' If they're not thinking about that, they're not thinking hard enough."
Junction Point's most recent title, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, was released in November. According to a report from the LA Times citing the NPD Group, sales of Epic Mickey 2 lagged far behind its predecessor during a similar holiday period.
Junction Point Studio was founded by Warren Spector and Art Min in 2004. The developer was acquired by Disney Interactive in 2007. Junction Point's debut effort, Epic Mickey, was released on the Wii in 2010. A sequel was released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC, and Nintendo 3DS last year.
Disney Interactive shuttered two of its game development studios in 2011: Propaganda Games (Turok, Tron: Evolution) and Black Rock Studio (Pure, Split Second). The division has seen two restructurings over the past two years, resulting in the elimination of an estimated 250 jobs."

Spector's hopes for more Epic Mickey, Oswald, DuckTales, Goofy and a hint at the series' future
"I'd love to see the Disney Epic Mickey series continue - there are plenty of stories still to tell about Wasteland and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse! I'd love to see some Oswald games, where he's on his own. He deserves a shot at solo stardom. Then there are the 'duck' games - Donald, Scrooge, etc - that are just waiting to be made. And a bunch of us at Junction Point have thoughts about Goofy and the Gremlins and a hundred others."
"Spector does drop one hint though, almost by accident, when talking about the Epic Mickey soundtrack - which changes on the fly as Mickey paints his surroundings.
"We go a step further, changing the actual orchestration based on how you choose to deal with game challenges."
With the second game, Spector introduced song and dance Disney spectacles, albeit with a Wasteland twist. And he wants to go a step further next time.

thanks to some basic additional Wii U exclusive functionality, this version looks to be the one to get. Mickey's latest adventure is designed around the idea of two-player drop in and out co-op with Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Where Wii U gets an ear up is that one player can look exclusively on the Wii U GamePad for their character while the other gets the entire television screen's real estate. This gives each player a full work to look at whereas Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii players will have to utilize split-screen.
The Wii U version of Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two will also support standalone play on the GamePad in case someone else needs the television.

Disney Interactive is happy to announce that the highly-anticipated Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two video game will be featured in a panel at the Comic-Con International 2012 show in San Diego on Sunday, July 15th at 1:00pm in Room 25ABC. "There is certainly a musically thematic thing going on because the other thing that inspired us was that if you go back to the original Mad Doctor cartoon in 1933, the only time he ever has a voice in that cartoon is when he sings. I thought that was really funny so the main singer in the game is the Mad Doctor. Other characters chime in but the Mad Doctor has a personality and a voice so all the songs that he participates in have to be true to that. So I'd say there's a theme. 3DS Epic Mickey news: {C}Power of Illusion is being put together by DreamRift, the studio behind 2011's Monster Tale for the Nintendo DS. The game, which is its own side-scrolling, platforming title (instead of a mere port of The Power of Two), is a follow-up to Epic Mickey, but more interestingly, it's also a follow-up to Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, a 1990 game for the Sega Genesis!
Power of Illusion will make heavy use of the Nintendo 3DS's stylus. By tapping the item icons exist in every level, you'll be able to "paint" (trace) those items into existence, including cliffs, cannons, and floating platforms. The more precisely you trace, the better for Mickey. A flawlessly-painted canon will only damage Mickey's enemies, for instance, but if you mess up the painting, the canon will be a danger to everyone in the area.
Sometimes you'll need to erase objects, which is done by spreading thinner. Again, the stylus comes into play here.
The hand-drawn sprites in Power of Illusion are extremely compelling, and, thanks to scrolling parallax backgrounds (a heavily-used graphic technique in the days of 16-bit gaming), reportedly look great in sterescopic 3D. Even better, every level in the game is based on an animated Disney adventure, from "Sleeping Beauty" to "Tangled" and lots in between.
As a final declaration of oldschool love, every character that Mickey saves in Power of Illusion will take up residence in the fortress that Mickey uses as his home base, a confirmed nod to the esteemed Suikoden RPG series. Sometimes you find references in the unlikeliest of places, but that's part of what makes video games fun. Right?

Story opening:The game's opening scene shows Oswald strolling down the street of a recently restored Wasteland, where cartoon characters go when they are forgotten. Just as an earthquake begins to shake the street apart, the Mad Doctor and his Beetleworx creations arrive on the scene in a twisted sort of take on the Main Street Electrical Parade. The Doctor sings a stirring musical number, using the refrain "Help me help you" to convince Oswald to join forces with him to save the Wasteland. Junction Point brought in comics writer Marv Wolfman (who already has a storied history with both Disney and Marvel in particular). Wolfman helped craft the game’s story and wrote the dialogue for all of the characters who are voiced by their respective Disney voice talent. Returning as the (actual) voice of Oswald is Frank Welker. We later have the opportunity to hear Oswald’s voice very briefly, which to me sounds a bit like a slightly higher pitched version of another of Welker’s famous characters, Fred Jones of ‘Scooby Doo’ . Oswald’s significant other, Ortensia ‘is a character from start to finish that you interact with a lot,’ though who providers her voice is currently a secret. Gremlins also take a more prominent role in the sequel and are fully voiced, but Spector tells us only that they are voiced by some ‘interesting names.’
