(new news will be at the top. old at the bottom.)

New update.

The first trailer for the Japanese Version of " Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two " was just released on the japanese Nintendo Direct. Also gives us the first sound of Oswald , Ortensia , Gus and the Mad Doctor 's voices in Japanese.

Another update:

WOW! an actual update! And it's Oswald and Ortensia related too!
Seems like Epic Mickey 2 for Wii and WiiU and Epic Mickey: power of illusion for 3DS will finally release in Japan on September 26th according to Shinobi's twitter account (same day as WWHD). [link]

So. If you ever wanted to hear Oswald and Ortensia speak japanese or if you are hoping for more Japanese Oswald and Ortensia merch. September 26th will be an interesting day.

Mcbasilrocks: OK, so I got in touch with a Mr. Adam Fenton, who was responsible for most of the concept art of Epic Mickey 2, and thus would have a sizable knowledge about the game's past. Throughout the previous few months, several suspicions have begun to arise on this forum about the game being chainsawed in half, with incomplete plot points, and of course the infamous Epilogue message that instructs you to 'use the turnstile to open a way forward'. With this in mind, I contacted Mr. Fenton via the comments page on one of his EM2 drawings. I left him my email, asking all sorts of questions about EM2, and soon after he responded with the following message (note: the original message contained all sorts of grammatical inaccuracies which I have corrected for the sake of easier reading; the text's content, however, remains completely unchanged and as Mr. Fenton wrote it). He also attached some concept art which hasn't yet been made public on his site, Fenton Designs, so I'd check it out before Disney gets wind and forcibly removes it. Here is his response in full:

'Thank you for your enquiry. Now that Junction Point is down, yes, it probably is the right time to tell all. In the beginning, when I was first hired at Junction Point, Epic Mickey 2 was being kept relatively secret. Several ideas were thrown around, but the plot point that was finally settled on was my idea for the earthquakes and the Blotworx. As such, I designed the various Blotworx images you see here, most of which were rejected. In the original, we were going to have a much bigger, emotional plotline. Pete was going to have been helping out the Mad Doctor, acting as a spy on Mickey and Oswald. The Blotworx were going to be a result of a failed experiment by the Mad Doctor, and there was going to be this huge thing about the Mad Doctor siding with you halfway through to help stop them. As for Prescott, as my concept art shows, he was going to play a bigger role (I think one early script actually had him falling to his death!).

About my attached concept art: The Mad Doctor's original plans were to be thus: he would perform his musical number in the beginning. However, the weird Tiki thing he pops out of would have been what caused the earthquakes, as my concept art shows. Forget all the stuff about a TV show, I can tell you truthfully that that was a 'creative decision' on the part of Warren Spector once he realised that we couldn't finish the game in time. I remember this huge hullabaloo when he announced that - it was crazy. Concept art redesigns, voice re-recordings, it was one messy operation by the end, and that's why, and I can say this now that I've been sacked, the game is the sloppy, nonsensical mess that it is.

As for the Epilogue, that was actually a coding mistake, made by Junction Point's programming department. It wasn't until we were mass-producing that we found that turnstile text in the coding, but by that point it was too late. So yeah, I can honestly tell you that you were gypped out of what really looked like it was turning out to be an epic adventure.

I hope this answers your questions.

Regards, Adam'

So, this answers quite a few questions:-

- The Epilogue is not doable. Reputable Gamespot users such as katydiddd have sacrificed veritable chunks of their lives trying to figure it out, but it was never meant to be there in the first place (well, technically it was, but you get what I mean.)

- The story is incomplete. Mr. Fenton hints at a much bigger, better plotline that might have been on par with the original Epic Mickey. But we now know for sure that it was time constraints that led to its downfall.

- The Petes were never meant to be a 'sequel hook'. They were going to be a part of the story. But, as we know, Junction Point is kaput, so we'll never get to see what happens.

- Junction Point's 'programming department', as he calls it, made several mistakes. That would account for the game's unplayability, camera issues, slowdown and general unpolished-ness.

-And of course, all of our theories have pretty much been proven right all along. For the full account of our suspicions, click here:

And for a full list of the unresolved plot points, click here:

Enjoy them while you can. I would like to heartily thank Mr. Fenton for his blunt honesty and co-operation in the matter, and for helping us quell our doubts and put this to rest. I wish him the best of luck in finding a new job.

Well, there it is folks. I wonder where we should go from here.....?

EDIT:  Already some pages are off the internet:

Warren Spector will not be staying on with Disney following the studio closure.

Disney retains the rights to the IP of Epic Mickey, but has no plans for the franchise at this time.

NPD talks Epic Mickey 2, Power of Illusion sales in the U.S.
Turns out the 270.000 number was false.

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two
- 529,000 units sold in the states
- includes November and December

Epic Mickey 2, plus Disney Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion

- 695,000 units over the same period
So. Epic Mickey: The Power of Illusion sold 166.000 units.

Updated: The rumor has now been confirmed. Junction Point Studio closed its doors.

"Epic Mickey developer Junction Point Studio closed its doors, a Disney representative confirmed to Polygon today. The Disney-owned Austin, Tex.-based studio employed about 160 people in early 2012.

"It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios," a representative for the company told Polygon. "These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We're extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2."

In an interview with Polygon last year, Spector said he saw a future in connectivity between smartphones and traditional gaming platforms.

"I make the games I want to make," he said. "I'm going to continue to do that. Anybody who doesn't work for Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo, who isn't thinking about 'How do I get a billion people with an Android, iOS or Microsoft phone in their pocket? How do they interact with my hardware?' If they're not thinking about that, they're not thinking hard enough."

Junction Point's most recent title, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, was released in November. According to a report from the LA Times citing the NPD Group, sales of Epic Mickey 2 lagged far behind its predecessor during a similar holiday period.

Junction Point Studio was founded by Warren Spector and Art Min in 2004. The developer was acquired by Disney Interactive in 2007. Junction Point's debut effort, Epic Mickey, was released on the Wii in 2010. A sequel was released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC, and Nintendo 3DS last year.

Disney Interactive shuttered two of its game development studios in 2011: Propaganda Games (Turok, Tron: Evolution) and Black Rock Studio (Pure, Split Second). The division has seen two restructurings over the past two years, resulting in the elimination of an estimated 250 jobs."

Rumor: Disney shutters Epic Mickey developer Junction Point.

"Junction Point, the development studio behind Wii exclusive Epic Mickey, is apparently set to close in seven days time. There's no indication why the studio is closing down, but it's thought that poor sales of Disney's Epic Mickey: The Power of Two have something to do with it."
original source:

Decided to make a seperate entree for this.
Let's hope this rumor isn't true. Many people would lose their jobs.
Not to mention that it puts the future of Oswald , Ortensia and the Epic Mickey series in great danger.

It's been awhile ,no? Let's start with some good news.
My Japanese source says she heard that Ortensia Merch is coming to Disney stores in February (in Japan). Still a rumor ,but nice.

Also. The Epic Mickey 2 graphic novel was published in the Italian "topolino" (Mickey) magazine. No english version yet.

Some bad news.
Some news sites reporting that EM2 only sold 270,000 units in December.,0,3494101.story
Yet. the accuracy of this number is disputed.
"Nirolak and Harker both confirmed Epic Mickey 2 is WAY over 270k".
Guess we'll have to wait for disney to release numbers.

Spector's hopes for more Epic Mickey, Oswald, DuckTales, Goofy and a hint at the series' future

"I'd love to see the Disney Epic Mickey series continue - there are plenty of stories still to tell about Wasteland and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse! I'd love to see some Oswald games, where he's on his own. He deserves a shot at solo stardom. Then there are the 'duck' games - Donald, Scrooge, etc - that are just waiting to be made. And a bunch of us at Junction Point have thoughts about Goofy and the Gremlins and a hundred others."

"Spector does drop one hint though, almost by accident, when talking about the Epic Mickey soundtrack - which changes on the fly as Mickey paints his surroundings.
"We go a step further, changing the actual orchestration based on how you choose to deal with game challenges."
With the second game, Spector introduced song and dance Disney spectacles, albeit with a Wasteland twist. And he wants to go a step further next time.
"They're not interactive - in THIS game - but using songs as storytelling tools seemed necessary for a game that claims to honor Disney's creative history."
So that's the plan for Epic Mickey 3, we assume. An interactive Disney musical from the man who made System Shock? Stranger things have happened."

Ortensia, she is voiced in the game (and everywhere else from this point on) by Audrey Wasilewski.

The good news: there is one. The bad news: it won't be published in North America, not even digitally, unless someone at Disney Publishing Worldwide changes their minds.
A shame it won't be available as comic writer Peter David has done a great job at adapting the story by Marv Wolfman, alongside the beautiful illustrations by Fabrizio Petrossi.

It wouldn't really be Disney unless there were pins to collect and this time there are over 120 different pins in all. Not only can be they be collected and displayed in the pin shop located on Mean Street, but pins can also carry a buff with them as well, affecting gameplay.

Warren spector is asked about a Epic mickey movie or shorts.
he's actually produced animation as a proof of concept. He was quick to note, however, that he is doing this all independently on his own as a pet project and it is in no way on Disney's radar at this time.

Wii U exclusive functionality
thanks to some basic additional Wii U exclusive functionality, this version looks to be the one to get. Mickey's latest adventure is designed around the idea of two-player drop in and out co-op with Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Where Wii U gets an ear up is that one player can look exclusively on the Wii U GamePad for their character while the other gets the entire television screen's real estate. This gives each player a full work to look at whereas Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii players will have to utilize split-screen.
The Wii U version of Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two will also support standalone play on the GamePad in case someone else needs the television.

Spector desperate to see Epic Mickey in HD, also still wants DuckTales
Here 's something interesting.
Remember this norwegian oswald comic:
It's called En magisk jul! / Just Like Magic.
It takes place outside the Epic Mickey universe. Starring Oswald and Ortensia + old oswald characters like Homer and Toby. Sadly. It being rare and not in english made us wonder what it was about and who the characters were and relate to each other.
The interesting part? I got to ask the writer (David Gerstein) of this comic some questions!

About Homer:
"In this comic (as in some Lantz-era cartoons), Homer is Ortensia's bratty little brother. He doesn't want to break them up;he just wants to embarrass Oswald in front of her as much as possible.
As for Homer, if I hadn't included him he might have blown me up with a giant firecracker. "

About J. P. Whiskers:
"With them is their dad, the banker from Disney's THE BANKER'S DAUGHTER (because Ortensia *is* the banker's daughter!). He's hosting a Christmas party for the 1%; he doesn't want Oswald and Toby Bear there, but Oswald would *really* like to spend the evening with Ortensia and a ton of luscious food, soooooo... (insert crafty plan)"

"I based J. P. Whiskers on not just the poster, but the model sheet, which also survives from BANKER'S DAUGHTER. Still, you can see him in animated form as well ;he's the old guy throwing stuff at Oswald at the end of RIVAL ROMEOS."

About Toby bear:
"A slightly overconfident guy like Oswald needs a pal like Toby to bring him back to reality 50% of the time ;and bother Oswald with his own childish habits the other 50%!"

More Oswald comics?
"I don't know about other planned comics. Here's hoping I'll have a chance to do more sometime."

Main characters :
"Over the next few weeks, we'll be taking an in-depth look at the characters of Disney Epic Mickey 2! Which characters are you most excited to learn more about?"

Mickey :
"MICKEY MOUSE - With paint brush in hand and Oswald at his side, Mickey returns to Wasteland to once again save the forgotten land from destruction. "

Oswald :
"OSWALD - While the adventure with Shadow Blot created a bond of friendship between Oswald & Mickey, Oswald still has doubts about his own self worth. Will Oswald grow into the great leader we all know he can be? "

Ortensia :
"ORTENSIA - The motherly toon universally respected and revered by all! No matter what the danger may be, you can be sure that she will do whatever it takes to protect her family!"

Gus Gremlin :
"GUS - There's just something about a man in uniform. Gus, the chief Gremlin of Wasteland, helps Mickey in his epic quest by teaching him the ways and history of his world. Do you have someone like this in your life?"

Mad Doctor :
"MAD DOCTOR - The Mad Doctor is making his return from banishment in Disney Epic Mickey 2 as a reformed toon. Seeing the error of his ways he offers his help, but the question is, can Mickey, Oswald, and Gus trust their old nemesis? What do you think?"

Over the years since Disney Epic Mickey, bitterness and envy crept into Prescott, leaving him a sarcastic curmudgeon. He hardly has a kind word for anyone.
"If you don't have anything nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all!"

'Disney Epic Mickey 2': Go behind the scenes in new trailer.
Some new footage of gameplay and the opening. Some voice acting aswell.

Epic mickey songs: Mad Doctor is main singer.
"There is certainly a musically thematic thing going on because the other thing that inspired us was that if you go back to the original Mad Doctor cartoon in 1933, the only time he ever has a voice in that cartoon is when he sings. I thought that was really funny so the main singer in the game is the Mad Doctor. Other characters chime in but the Mad Doctor has a personality and a voice so all the songs that he participates in have to be true to that. So I'd say there's a theme. (There are) enough (songs) that we can certainly put out a soundtrack album if Disney wants us to. I hope they do." - Warren Spector

Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion 3ds:
In “Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion,” Reality is What You Paint of It. The game offers a special drawing and painting function that allows players to create rough versions of objects that magically transform into classic Disney-style 2D illustrations. Utilizing the game’s unparalleled dual screen integration, players then move their creations to the top screen where they are further transformed into full-color, fully-rendered 3D visuals.

Paying tribute to the classic Sega Genesis title “Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse,” “Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion” focuses on the fabled Castle of Illusion, which has fallen into Wasteland, an alternate world filled with 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions – and now forgotten video games. The evil witch Mizrabel, villainess from the classic “Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse,” finds herself an unwilling inhabitant of Wasteland, and unleashes a plot to escape using the Castle of Illusion to imprison and drain the cartoon essence from currently famous Toons. Players will take on the role of Mickey Mouse as he utilizes his magical brush to wield paint and thinner to confront Mizrabel and save the Toons.

3DS Epic Mickey update More screens:

First screens:

Warren Spector announces Europe release date EM2: 26 september. Also a PC version of the game is in developement.

3DS Epic Mickey news: {C}Power of Illusion is being put together by DreamRift, the studio behind 2011's Monster Tale for the Nintendo DS. The game, which is its own side-scrolling, platforming title (instead of a mere port of The Power of Two), is a follow-up to Epic Mickey, but more interestingly, it's also a follow-up to Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, a 1990 game for the Sega Genesis!

Power of Illusion will make heavy use of the Nintendo 3DS's stylus. By tapping the item icons exist in every level, you'll be able to "paint" (trace) those items into existence, including cliffs, cannons, and floating platforms. The more precisely you trace, the better for Mickey. A flawlessly-painted canon will only damage Mickey's enemies, for instance, but if you mess up the painting, the canon will be a danger to everyone in the area.

Sometimes you'll need to erase objects, which is done by spreading thinner. Again, the stylus comes into play here.

The hand-drawn sprites in Power of Illusion are extremely compelling, and, thanks to scrolling parallax backgrounds (a heavily-used graphic technique in the days of 16-bit gaming), reportedly look great in sterescopic 3D. Even better, every level in the game is based on an animated Disney adventure, from "Sleeping Beauty" to "Tangled" and lots in between.

As a final declaration of oldschool love, every character that Mickey saves in Power of Illusion will take up residence in the fortress that Mickey uses as his home base, a confirmed nod to the esteemed Suikoden RPG series. Sometimes you find references in the unlikeliest of places, but that's part of what makes video games fun. Right?

There's no release date set for Power of Illusion (Fall 2012 is a general target), but expect lots more information on this game as the weeks march on like Mouseketeers. {C}Originally Posted by JazzmanZ: View Post {C}I have the magazine in hand, the graphics look just like the Castle of illusion graphics!

Blotworx: Beetleworx controlled by blotlings. {C}Oswald can use his remote to make beetleworx friendly. Like Mickey and his paint

Story opening:The game's opening scene shows Oswald strolling down the street of a recently restored Wasteland, where cartoon characters go when they are forgotten. Just as an earthquake begins to shake the street apart, the Mad Doctor and his Beetleworx creations arrive on the scene in a twisted sort of take on the Main Street Electrical Parade. The Doctor sings a stirring musical number, using the refrain "Help me help you" to convince Oswald to join forces with him to save the Wasteland. Once he leaves with the Doctor, Oswald's girl, Ortensia and Gremlin Gus again reach out to Mickey to set things straight.

Junction Point brought in comics writer Marv Wolfman (who already has a storied history with both Disney and Marvel in particular). Wolfman helped craft the game’s story and wrote the dialogue for all of the characters who are voiced by their respective Disney voice talent. Returning as the (actual) voice of Oswald is Frank Welker. We later have the opportunity to hear Oswald’s voice very briefly, which to me sounds a bit like a slightly higher pitched version of another of Welker’s famous characters, Fred Jones of ‘Scooby Doo’ . Oswald’s significant other, Ortensia ‘is a character from start to finish that you interact with a lot,’ though who providers her voice is currently a secret. Gremlins also take a more prominent role in the sequel and are fully voiced, but Spector tells us only that they are voiced by some ‘interesting names.’

“Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two” is forever until you decide to undo it… if you erase something, it stays erased. If someone doesn’t like you, they stay not liking you until you change your mind.’

Disney Oswald short “Hungry Hobos” was bought by Disney at the auction. Might appear in EM2. {C}

A new army has risen in the Wastelands too, a curious hybrid of Blotlings and Beetleworx known as Blotworx. How exactly this new species came about is all part of the mystery surrounding the sequel’s story.
