Film & Television

In 1991, Allen made a Disney debut in the Touchstone Pictures television program Home Improvement as Tim "The Toolman" Taylor. His first movie was as the titular character in the 1994 film The Santa Clause. The success of this film allowed him to reprise his role in the film's following two sequels, The Santa Clause 2 in 2002 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause in 2006.

In 1995, Allen's theatrical fame skyrocketed when he claimed his role as Buzz Lightyear in the first Toy Story film, starring alongside Tom Hanks. He later reprised his role as Lightyear in 1999, and most recently in 2010. All three gained universal acclaim from film critics, and Toy Story 3 became the first animated film in history to gross over 1 billion dollars in international revenue. Prior to the release of the third film, Allen returned to his role as Buzz Lightyear for the 2000 spin-off film, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. However, this film was not released to theatres, but directly to DVD and VHS instead.

In 1997, he starred in Jungle 2 Jungle as Michael Cromwell. In 2006, he landed a leading role as Dave Douglas in The Shaggy Dog.

In 2011, he returned to television in the ABC family sitcom Last Man Standing. He portrays Mike Baxter, a man who starts making videos of his "Outdoor Man" marketing to bring up the profits for his job.

He narrated the 2012 Disneynature documentrary film Chimpanzee. He also played Elliot Arnold in the 2002 Touchstone Pictures film Big Trouble and Doug Madsen in Wild Hogs.
