"The Sisterhood" is the 19th episode of the second season of Pepper Ann. It aired on December 12, 1998.

Synopsis[]

Lydia and Janie drag a reluctant Pepper Ann to a women's retreat called "Adamant Eve," where women celebrate and discuss their place in society and history.

Plot[]

Pepper Ann is getting ready to have the house to herself and Moose for the weekend, but is surprised to find out that Lydia and Janie plan to take her to their women's retreat called "Adamant Eve", which is meant to celebrate women's place in society and history. Pepper Ann does not want to go, but is nevertheless forced to. Grandma Lillian drops the three off as she herself thinks that the whole thing is ridiculous; made even more strange that they take a bus to a motel that is only four blocks away. Pepper Ann plans to use room service, but discovers they are staying in a tent.

While there, Pepper Ann is forced to watch uninteresting movies, take part in mundane rituals and listen to Lydia and Janie's personal feelings about being a woman, such as Janie's hidden hatred for fellow member Margot LaSandre. Pepper Ann is further disappointed to learn that while Nicky's mother is there, she is not. Pepper Ann tells her mom that she wants to leave and that she can just walk home, but she and Janie convince her to stay for one more day. It just so happens that Lydia is well informed on women's history and begins to inform Pepper Ann about things such as the right to vote and the culture change of each generation.

Pepper Ann finally comes clean to the rest of the women; stating that they do not need to wait for things to change and that they can do many things now. While there are still sexist people out there, everyone is aware of how wrong they are and her generation is informed enough to change things. The women celebrate Pepper Ann's new educated stance. The Pearsons meet up with Grandma Lillian who is impressed with how much Pepper Ann is informed and they return home. As Lillian decides to wait for her husband to pick her up, Pepper Ann and Lydia offer to take her to the movies, which she happily accepts.

Trivia[]

  • Milo Kamalani and Nicky Little are absent though the latter is mentioned.
  • In this episode, Janie and Margot hate each other, while Lydia seems merely indifferent to Margot. In "Moose in Love", however, Lydia and Margot hate each other. And in "In Support of", they seem to have no history together when Lydia and Pepper Ann walk into her store, as she introduces herself.
  • The Rosie O'Donnell baseball movie that the women watch is most likely A League of Their Own.
  • Pepper Ann mentions that there is a theater at Abe's Mall, despite the fact that prior episodes showed that it is more of a strip mall and unlikely to have such a thing. However, she has shown to have a better appreciation for that place since the events of "Ziterella".
