"The Second Star to the Right" is the opening song to the 1953 Disney animated feature film Peter Pan. It is sung by an offscreen chorus and refers to the entrance to Neverland. It is then heard instrumentally after the opening credits where an offscreen narrator introduces the viewers to the Darling family's house, the house Peter Pan chose particularly because there were people who believed in him.
Its melody was actually recycled from a deleted Alice in Wonderland song called "Beyond the Laughing Sky". It was later shown in the opening of Return to Never Land. It is also featured, in instrumental form only, during the scene in which Wendy and Peter reunite. It is also heavily featured in the opening and ending of Disney Dreams!. It is also performed by Jesse McCartney during Disneymania 2.
Lyrics[]
The second star to the right
Shines in the night for you
To tell you that the dreams you plan
Really can come true
The second star to the right
Shines with a light so rare
And if it's Never Land you need
Its light will lead you there
Twinkle, twinkle, little star
So we'll know where you are
Gleaming in the skies above
Lead us to the land we dream of
And when our journey is through
Each time we say "Goodnight"
We'll thank the little star that shines
The second from the right
The second star to the right
Shines in the night for you
To tell you that the dreams you plan
Really can come true
The second star to the right
Shines with a light so rare
And if it's Never Land you need
Its light will lead you there
Twinkle, twinkle, little star
So I'll know where you are
Gleaming in the skies above
Lead me to the one who loves me
And when you bring him my way
Each time we say "Goodnight"
We'll thank the little star that shines
The second from the right
