After Elsa's powers were exposed during her post-coronation party, she fled Arendelle, unknowingly casting an eternal winter upon the kingdom. Elsa flees to the North Mountain as a self-imposed exile, as a way to be who she is without hurting anybody. This is the setting for Elsa's "Let It Go" sequence where she finally comes to terms with her powers and abilities; her catharsis manifests itself in the form of a majestic Ice Palace where she intends to reside for the rest of her days.
However, her self-imposed exile is interrupted by her sister, Anna, who intends to bring her back to Arendelle along with the help of the Kristoff, his reindeer Sven, and Olaf the snowman. The trio was ultimately unsuccessful and was cast out by Elsa and her minion, Marshmallow.
When Anna doesn't return from her pursuit of Elsa, Hans gathers the Royal Guards of Arendelle and the the Duke of Weselton's bodyguards to find her. Unbeknownst to him, the Duke's cronies accompany Hans to the North Mountain as part of a plan to kill Elsa to end the eternal winter. As they got near the Palace, the group is attacked by Marshmallow but the group defeated Marshmallow and fell him off into ravine. Instead of finding Anna, they found Elsa by seeing them by 2 Royal guards on the Palace's Door. Elsa fights back but is knocked unconscious by being hit by the shards by shattering the Palace's Chandlier using a bow and she is ultimately captured by the group and taken back to Arendelle where she is imprisoned.
The North Mountain appears in the show as the location where the urn containing the original Snow Queen was originally placed.
The North Mountain appears as part of the Chill in the Air sky in the Disney INFINITY games, being activated by a Power Disc.
