"The Mermaid's Song" is the first segment of the thirty-fourth episode of Jake and the Never Land Pirates. It premiered on June 29, 2012 alongside "Treasure of the Tides", and is the first segment of the ninth episode in the second season.
Synopsis[]
It's the day before the "Treasure of the Tides" ceremony, where the mermaids give a special honor to one of their own. Jake and his crew volunteer to help. Marina the Mermaid's little sister, Stormy, wants to go surfing, rather than help out. But she has to collect seashells, pick seaweed, and gather coconuts. Marina and the others leave Stormy to do her work.
During her hunt for seashells, Stormy meets Snappy the Hermit Crab, who wants to come along. Then they see Captain Hook nearby, which gives Stormy an idea. She tells Snappy about the Mermaid's Song; when someone hears it, they're hypnotized into doing whatever the mermaid tells them. She warns him to cover his ears, so he won't hear it. She sings for Hook to collect seashells, and gives him a bag to carry them in. Then Mr. Smee comes out looking for the captain, and Stormy sings for him to pick seaweed, and gives him a basket for the seaweed. All she has to do now is gather coconuts. She sees Cubby, and remembers what he said: "Helping mermaids is always fun". So she sings for him to gather coconuts, and pile them up anywhere. Snappy doesn't like what she is doing, so he goes off to tell Marina.
Meanwhile, Jake, Skully, and Izzy are making instruments. They see that Cubby didn't finish his coconut drum, so they go looking for him.
Later, they see Hook on a cliff, collecting seashells. Jake can't get through to him, so they push a giant sponge under him, and catch him. Izzy wonders what is wrong with Hook. But when she claps her hands, Hook wakes up. Then they see Smee walk over the octopus, enraging the sleeping beast, who grabs Smee and Hook and juggles them. Jake rescues Hook and Smee by giving the octopus other things to juggle, and Smee wakes up afterwards. Cubby comes in piling up coconuts, which begin to tip over. Izzy quickly throws pixie dust on the coconuts to hold them in midair, saving Cubby. Jake and Izzy see Cubby's eyes, and realize something is wrong. Marina appeared with Snappy, and tells them that the only way to break the Mermaid's Song spell is to clap their hands. She claps, and Cubby wakes up. Hook wants to know who (as in which mermaid) would ask them to do such things. Marina figures that it had to be Stormy, who then rises up from the Never Sea. Marina tells her what happened. Stormy realizes that Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, and Cubby didn't like being used for selfish reasons, and apologizes for her actions. Marina reminds her that the Mermaid's Song should be used to help others and should never be used selfishly.
Back on Pirate Island, Cubby points out that the crew has lots of coconuts (the ones he gathered for Stormy while hypnotized)--way too many.
Meanwhile, at the Jolly Roger, Sharky and Bones are using the Mermaid's Song to hypnotize Hook as he swabs the deck for them.
