"The Beauty Contest" is the second segment of the twenty-sixth episode of Recess.

Synopsis[]

Spinelli is entered into a beauty contest by the Ashleys as a joke, but sticks around so she can beat them.

Plot[]

The Ashleys are preparing to enter the Kiddie Cosmetics "Little Miss Blush Beauty Contest" when Spinelli drops a mud ball into their clubhouse. The girls are disgusted before they all deviously come up with a plan to humiliate her by entering her into the contest. Spinelli finds out the next day in class and is, of course, baffled that someone would do this. Gretchen immediately deduces that the Ashleys are behind it, but rather than backing out, Vince suggests that Spinelli show them up by taking the contest seriously. Spinelli reluctantly agrees with Vince taking on the role as her coach, much to everyone's confusion.

Vince shows Spinelli the ropes and tries to get her to change her style and appearance. Gretchen has her learn to balance plates as a talent while Gus and Mikey try to make a dress for her. Despite all the bumps they face, Spinelli manages to completely transform herself and appears presentable as a beauty contestant. The Gang head to the show to see Spinelli go out and perform where she manages to make it to the finals with Ashley A. and Ashley Q. Ashley A. later approaches Spinelli and congratulates her by comparing her to herself, making her feel uncomfortable. When Spinelli goes out to give her final speech, she breaks and admits that she is being a phony and is not her real self. This, ironically, impresses the judges who award her as the winner, much to everyone's joy, minus the Ashleys.

Cast[]

Trivia[]
