Susan Long^[2][3] is a character from the animated television show American Dragon: Jake Long. She is voiced by Lauren Tom.

History

She is Jake and Haley's mother, Lao Shi's daughter and Jonathan's beautiful wife. Though descended from a (supposedly) pure dragon bloodline, she does not possess dragon powers herself, as they sometimes skip generations (as she mentions in "Shapeshifter"). She runs her own catering service, that has sometimes been known to provide for premiere events, such as the wedding of soap opera stars Thad Rochefort-Chaise and Jasma Sancere^[4].

Throughout the series, she keeps the family secret from Jonathan, and has been reluctant to reveal it to him, out of fears of how he will react - that he would freak out and possibly leave her, which he nearly did^[5]. In that episode it was revealed when she was the 12th Grade, she wrote a letter explaining her family's dragon powers, but never gave it to him. A time-traveling Jake took the note and put it in his dad's locker, causing him to actually leave her until Jake straighten everything up. She's been trying to work her way to tell him that magical creatures are real.

She was finally forced to reveal everything to him after Jonathon accidentally walks in on Haley dragoned up and not only does he take it well, much to Susan's relief, but he wants to help Jake immediately after discovering he's in trouble. Susan takes part in the final battle with the Dark Dragon the first and only time in the series she fights in a battle and she destroys some of the Shade Demons with a camera^[6].
