The Spirits are minor characters in A Christmas Carol. Like the ghost of Jacob Marley, these spirits are all bound in chains that represent their accumilated sins. All of these spirits also have various heavy objects attached to the chains such as bank safes, giant coins, giant padlocks, giant keys. Some spirits were even chained up to even other spirits (presumably these were corrupt government members in life). In life, like Jacob Marley and Ebenezer Scrooge, these spirits were cruel and bitter individuals.
