Sofia the First is a upcoming television series featuring the Disney Princesses. The series will premiere sometime in Spring 2013. It will star Ariel Winter as Sofia who is a young girl on the verge of becoming a princess. The format is said to be similar to Jake and the Never Land Pirates, but with a different theme.

It has been announced that Flora, Fauna and Merryweatherwill appear as the headmistresses of Royal Prep, the academy that Sofia, along with other princes and princesses, attends. It introduces Sofia, a little girl with a commoner’s background until her mother (played by Sara Ramirez from Grey's Anatomy) marries the King and suddenly she is royalty. With the help of the three familiar fairies in charge of the Royal Training Academy — Flora, Fauna and Merryweather of Disney’s classic “Sleeping Beauty” and, on occasion, classic Disney Princess characters including Cinderella, Aurora, Snow White and Ariel — Sofia learns that looking like a princess isn’t all that hard but behaving like one must come from the heart. Sofia will wear plenty of pretty dresses and sparkly shoes, but the stories will focus on the idea that what makes a real princess is what's on the inside. The show will highlight character qualities such as kindness, generosity, loyalty, honesty and grace.

She has a magic amulet that allows her to talk with animals.
