Sofia the First is a television series featuring the Disney Princesses that officially premiered with its' first half-hour episode on January 11, 2013. The series pilot made its' debut on the Disney Channel on November 18th, 2012 with a one-hour special. The series stars Ariel Winter (Modern Family, Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Phineas and Ferb) as the titular character who is a young 7-year-old girl on the verge of becoming a princess.

It has been announced that Royal Prep, the academy that Sofia, along with other princes and princesses, attends. It introduces Sofia, a little girl with a commoner’s background until her mother (played by Sara Ramirez from Grey's Anatomy) marries the King and suddenly she is royalty.

Synposis

With the help of Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, in charge of the Royal Training Academy — Flora, Fauna and Merryweather of Disney’s classic Sleeping Beauty and, on occasion, classic Disney Princess characters including Cinderella, Aurora and Belle. — Sofia learns that looking like a princess isn’t all that hard but behaving like one must come from the heart. Sofia will wear plenty of pretty dresses and sparkly shoes, but the stories will focus on the idea that what makes a real princess is what's on the inside. The show will highlight character qualities such as kindness, generosity, loyalty, honesty and grace. She has a magic amulet that allows her to talk with animals.
