Sherman Hemsley (February 1, 1938 - July 24, 2012) was an American comic actor best known for playing George Jefferson on All in the Family and its spinoff The Jeffersons (1975-85).

For Disney, he provided the voice of tyrannical boss Bradley P. Richfield on Dinosaurs.

Hemsley also starred as Deacon Frye on Amen (1986-1991) and on the short-lived sitcom Goode Behavior (1996-1997). In addition to countless guest appearances as George Jefferson on series and in commercials (including Denny's), the actor had recurring guest roles, as similarly brash and obnoxious characters, on Family Matters, Sister, Sister, The Hughleys, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Other TV appearances included The Incredible Hulk, The Love Boat, 227, and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. His few film credits included Love at First Bite (with George Hamilton) and Mr. Nanny (co-starring opposite Hulk Hogan).
