The Royal Plaza is a 394-room resort on the property of Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. It is located near the Downtown Disney area on Hotel Plaza Blvd. The resort originally opened as The Royal Inn in October 1972. In the mid or late 1970s, the hotel's name was changed to The Hotel Royal Plaza and is now simply known as the Royal Plaza. The hotel has one restaurant, The Giraffe Cafe & Tavern. The resort was forced to close in August 2004 after sustaining major damage from Hurricane Charley. It reopened in 2006 after receiving a major multi-million-dollar renovation. The 17-story resort is now appears more upscale and has a more contemporary motif. The hotel is known for having some of the largest rooms in the Downtown Disney resort area.
On June 4, 2012, B Hotels & Resorts announced plans to buy the property and renovate it, while rebranding it. The hotel will continue to operate while the rebranding and renovations occur. B Hotels & Resorts expect the project to be finished sometime in late 2013.
