Rocket Jets was a spinner attraction located in Tomorrowland at Disneyland from July 2, 1967, to January 6, 1997. The Rocket Jets were located on top of the PeopleMover loading station, accessible by elevator. The ride replaced a ground-level space-themed spinner called the Astro-Jets, which was eventually renamed "Tomorrowland Jets" to avoid confusion with American Airlines' AstroJet service at the time.
The Rocket Jets enjoyed a nearly thirty year existence in Tomorrowland, but closed in 1997 in order to make way for the new Tomorrowland. The Rocket Jets' structure was stripped down to its skeleton and its rocket vehicles replaced with faux satellite dishes, turned into a kinetic sculpture called the Observatron, which moves every 15 minutes, set to music from Disneyland Paris' original Space Mountain.
An homage to the attraction was featured in Monsters, Inc. There is a vintage Rocket Jets poster above the bed in the scene where Mike goes into a little boy's bedroom to make him laugh.
There was also an homage to it in Meet the Robinsons, in the Todayland shot next to Space Mountain.
