Pretty Irish Girl is a song from Disney's 1959 movie, Darby O'Gill and the Little People. It was sung by Michael MacBride (Sean Connery). It was later sung by Michael MacBride (Sean Connery), Darby O'Gill (Albert Sharpe), and Katie O'Gill (Janet Munro). However, it was sung twice in the movie. The first was sung by Katie when she was getting ready to go out for a dance at night and the second was sung by her, Michael, and Darby at the end of the movie.

Lyrics

Michael:
Have you ever
seen the sea gulls
A-flyin' o'er the heather
Or the crimson sails
in Galway Bay
The fishermen unfurl

Oh, the earth is filled with beauty
And it's gathered all together
In the form and face
and dainty grace
Of a pretty Irish girl

Oh, she is my dear
my darlin' one
Her eyes so sparklin'
full of fun

No other, no other
can match the likes of her

She is my dear
my darlin' one
My smilin' and beguilin' one

I love the ground she walks upon
My darling Irish girl

Katie:
When the dew is on the hayrick
And every drop a pearl
When the geese are full of blarney
And the thrush is singing Gaelic
And standing in the doorway
Is a pretty Irish girl

Oh, she is my dear
my darling one
Her eyes so sparkling
full of fun
No other, no other
can match the likes of her

She is my dear
my darling one
My smilin' and beguilin' one
I love the ground
she walks upon...
My pretty Irish girl

Michael:
Oh, she is my dear
my darlin' one
Her eyes so sparklin'
full of fun
No other, no other
can match the likes of her

Katie:
Oh, he is my dear
my darling one
His eyes so sparkling
full of fun
No other, no other
Can match the likes of him

Michael and Katie:
She is my dear,
my darlin' one
My smilin' and beguilin' one
I love the ground she walks upon

Michael, Darby, and Katie:
My darlin' Irish...

Trivia

  • The duet "Pretty Irish Girl", apparently sung by Sean Connery and Janet Munro, has been alleged to feature dubbed vocals by Irish singers, Brendan O'Dowda and Ruby Murray.
  • A version of the song "My Pretty Irish Girl" sung by Sean Connery and Janet Munro was released as a single about the same time as the debut of the movie in 1959. Ironically, Sean Connery said the singing was the one aspect of the role he wasn't too fond of.
