"Once in a Blue Moon" is the first segment of the forty-sixth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on February 18, 2017 alongside "The Queen Gemma Dilemma", and is the first segment of the sixteenth episode in the second season.

Plot[]

One time on the Stellosphere, Stella informs Miles that they have reached Planet Verdora. Miles then activates his Blastboard's rafter mode, and M.E.R.C. follows. Miles then pushes Loretta towards the bridge. Loretta tells Miles that he needs to be careful, as if she were a big rock in the water, he would be in big trouble. Leo is also hyping the blue moon rafting holo-badge. To earn the badge, the Cosmic Explorers have to make it to the Blue Moon Lagoon. Loretta says that a lagoon is a shallow body of water close to the sea, but separated from it by a narrow strip of land. Phoebe hears that some Cosmic Explorers don't even make it that far, and Miles assumes that they'll definitely make it there that time.

Once on the planet, Phoebe drops everyone off, and she will pick them up at the end of the lagoon. It is also revealed that Joe and Leo did ride the river when they were Cosmic Explorers. The Cosmic Explorers and Leo meet up with Haruna, Captain Joe, and Blodger, who are also excited for the trip. Joe also realizes that the river is made of air. Blodger decides to give it a try, but he inflates when he does so. When everyone tries to pull him down, Blodger burps to deflate. The Cosmic Explorers know the plan: to ride midstream, stop for lunch, and continue the rest of the way to the lagoon. They also go over the procedures for the rafting trip. They then push the raft down the river before hopping on it.

Loretta finds out that the species that jump out of the river are humming toads, who live in that river. Miles sees that the current is so calm. Haruna thinks that it may be the easiest holo-badge they ever earned. Leo and Joe remember feeling the same thing around here when they hear vents. The Cosmic Explorers activate their helmets and have their oars ready. They maneuver through the vents, but a big one launches the raft up into the air, also causing a gearbox to fall loose. Miles tries to catch it to no avail. The Cosmic Explorers then stop at an island for lunch. There, Loretta and M.E.R.C. see that the gearbox that fell overboard has their camp stove, so they have no way to cook anything. However, M.E.R.C. has an idea: to use his boosters to cook the food.

While the Cosmic Explorers are having food, Blodger decides to go back. Miles tells him that if he doesn't want to keep going, he can stop. Leo and Joe agree, stating that if this feels too hard or scary, you don't have to do it. Blodger says that another possibility is that if he stops, he may always wish he kept going. He then decides to continue the trip, as do all of the other Cosmic Explorers.

Eventually, Joe says that they need to get through the next part as fast as they can. This is because the Cosmic Explorers are encountering what Loretta finds out Verdorian seed slingers. M.E.R.C. tries to guard the raft from them, but one seed collides into the raft, causing it to leak. Blodger tries to help to no avail, and Joe patches it up before Blodger burps. Haruna decides for everyone to go back when the raft goes down a waterfall and through more rough currents. The Cosmic Explorers then see a big tree up ahead, and since Loretta finds out that it will tear the raft to ribbons, Joe decides for everyone to paddle to shore and walk around that part. Blodger has a different idea: to inflate himself enough so that he can burp everyone over the tree, and it works.

Leo says that they have one more obstacle to go, and it's the biggest one. However, he and Joe are not sure how hard it is. This is because back when they were Cosmic Explorers, they did the Blue Moon River run just like them, but the only difference is that they hit the spiky tree back there. As a result, they never went any further, and didn't earn their holo-badges. As Blodger said, they've regretted it ever since. Haruna, Blodger, and Loretta complain about how hard the final obstacle may be and consider quitting. Miles tells them that Haruna thought this would be the easiest holo-badge ever earned, but it hasn't been. However, if they make it to the end, it will be a badge that they'll be proud of, maybe the most proud of, and they agree to finish the trip.

The Cosmic Explorers encounter the final obstacle, and Leo tells everyone to keep the oars up. After they go down, they hold them at a thirty degree angle. Eventually, they make it through the twisting current just as night approaches, and Joe and Leo say that they finally made it. The Cosmic Explorers then make it to the Blue Moon Lagoon, and Miles thought they'd see a blue moon, but Leo says to wait. The vents then blow, and Leo says that the blue moon is only visible from this exact spot, and only when the vents blow. The Cosmic Explorers say that is was worth all the trouble they took to get there.

Back in the Stellosphere, Miles, M.E.R.C., Haruna, Blodger, and Loretta are rewarded with Blue Moon rafting holo-badges. Miles also rewards Joe and Leo with the same holo-badges, and Joe and Leo thank the Cosmic Explorers, as they couldn't have made it to the lagoon without them.
