New Year, New Start High (or as known as Pilot), was to have been the first ever episode of Madison High, written by Lester Lewis and directed by Paul Hoen. According to, Katherine McNamara, casting for this episode began on June 21, 2010 and ended on the same day. Filming for the episode, began from June 23, 2010 and ended August 29, 2010. It was scheduled to be released on July 1, 2011.

At Disney Upfront 2010/2011, Lester announced the episode and stated it will bring a lot of joy to Disney Channel itself.

In 2011, it was confirmed one of the stars from Madison High, G. Hannelius, was casted to play Avery Jennings, in the new Disney Channel show (at the time), Dog With a Blog, which was picked up for a series, other than, Madison High. This left the show to be cancelled, and the other 27 episodes of the series un-produced, not filmed and not seen. A second season was planned.

There were speculations, the first episode would premiere on Disney Channel, in late 2012, 2013 but it did not. Rumors went around that it would air on January 23, 2014. It did not, and this episode has not aired, as of May 2017.
