"Never Everglades" is the first segment from the fourth episode of Timon & Pumbaa.
Synopsis[]
Timon chases a bug across a road. He walks right in front of a truck headed to an alligator farm and the vehicle swerves. An egg falls out and gently bounces to a stop under the sleeping Pumbaa's rear end. The bug Timon is chasing crawls into the warthog's mouth and Timon angrily awakens Pumbaa for him to spit it out. He awakens and discovers that he has "laid an egg." Timon is confused, saying that males do not lay eggs. Pumbaa, however, is excited to be a mommy. Timon informs him that only chickens lay eggs. The egg hatches and calls Pumbaa his mommy and asks if Timon is food. Uncle. Timon tells Pumbaa that Pumbaa Jr. cannot be his son but rather an ugly chicken.
Pumbaa begins teaching Pumbaa Jr. how to forage for food. Pumbaa scolds Timon for doing everything rudely and being a bad example. At dinner, Timon continually sets a bad example by not saying grace, eating sloppily, and not waiting for dessert. Pumbaa gets onto the meerkat for belching. Pumbaa is not happy that Timon tricked the gator into playing hide-n-seek but left him to hide.
On family picture day, Timon does not even want to stand next to Pumbaa, Jr. As the picture snaps, the alligator bites down on Timon's tail. Timon wonders what happened to the Hakuna Matata life the pals once led. Unaware that Junior is listening on, Timon tells Pumbaa that the ugly chicken needs to be with his own kind. He leaves a letter for his guardians saying that he ran away to be with his family. Searching around the whole swamp (except the one spot Pumbaa, Jr. is at), they discover he has found a chicken just as ugly as he is. Pumbaa, Jr. says his good-byes before leaving with his female alligator friend. They go into a chicken coop to be with the rest of their "family" but the reptiles raise a loud commotion.
Trivia[]
- Certain mammals are actually capable of laying eggs. The name for the clade comes from the fact that the female animals have mammary glands. The five species of monotremes, including the platypuses and the echidnas, are mammals that lay eggs.
- All the arguments Timon used to get rid of the alligator are invalid, since the series takes place after The Lion King, and Timon and Pumbaa had already raised another kind of animal and taught him to be like them (Simba).
