Munchkinland is a miniature city populated by the Munchkins in L. Frank Baum's novel The Wizard of Oz, and as such, featured in The Muppets' Wizard of Oz. The concept was designed by William Stout. It is the first land encountered by Dorothy Gale when she arrives on Oz, and was formerly the domain of the Wicked Witch of the East. Small, blue, mushroom-esque thatch roofed cottages, some with satellite dishes, are spread out in a charming arrangement against green valleys and lush mountains. Prominent landmarks include the cheese factory, billboards for the Wicked Witch, and the Munchkinland Statue.
In the prequel Oz the Great and Powerful, Glinda the Good Witch of the South has been forced to move to Munchkinland after Evanora the Wicked Witch of the East and Theodora the Wicked Witch of the West took over Emerald City. Thankfully, Oscar Diggs rallies Glinda and the inhabitants of Munchkinland into defeating the Wicked Witches' army of Winkies, and Oscar himself drives the Wicked Witch of the West and the Wicked Witch of the East out of Emerald City (thus becominng the Wizard of Oz and fulfilling the prophecy). After that, Glinda stays in the Emerald City with Oscar, while the Munchkins return to Munchkinland.
