Mary Contrary is the deuteragonsit and Tom Piper's sweetheart in Babes in Toyland. She is based off the character from the nursery rhyme "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary."


Mary is a young lady who live in Mother Goose Village along with several children including Willie Winkie, Bo Peep, and Little Boy Blue.

Mr Barnaby want to marry her but she is engaged with Tom, the piper son. The former is plotting to kidnapped Tom and throw him in the sea by hiring Gonzorgo and Roderigo. Mr Barnaby also told the two man to steal Bo Peep's sheeps, since the sheeps makes her more independent in term of economy.

After Tom is kidnapped and Bo Peep's sheep, Mary is worried about the economy. She plans to sell the furniture to help the children. Knowing she has no other choices, she reluctantly decides to marry Barnaby.

Barnaby invites the gypsies to the celebration to perform dances. An old gypsy women among them revealed to be Tom in disguise. He reveals Barnaby's plot and the whole village turn against the evil man.
