"Magnetic Merc" is the second segment of the nineteenth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on August 7, 2015, alongside "Blasteroid!".

Plot[]

Out in space, Miles and M.E.R.C. are looking for space junk. M.E.R.C. sees one, but it is Miles' foot. Miles sees something in the distance. Even with no idea what it is, Miles thinks it is perfect for his collection. M.E.R.C. sees another piece, but fails to retrieve it when it goes into an interstellar dust cloud. Miles tells M.E.R.C. to come out of it, since they will not be able to see anything if they get stuck in it, and they head back to the Stellosphere.

Miles wonders where the space junk he collected is from when it sticks to M.E.R.C. Miles believes that the junk really likes him when other metal objects become attracted to M.E.R.C. Miles chases him, while also capturing the attention of Leo and Loretta. The chase ends at the bridge, where Phoebe uses her chair to stop the metal objects. Miles tells Phoebe that he and M.E.R.C. were out looking for space junk, but after they came back, metal stuff started sticking to M.E.R.C. Phoebe says that this is because they got caught in the cloud she saw out there. Phoebe says that interstellar dust clouds have strong magnetic fields, and passing through one turned M.E.R.C. into a magnet. This is because he is metal, unlike Miles. Leo suggests that to de-magnetize M.E.R.C., the Callistos need to find a special magnetic field. Stella then informs them of a call from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Miles promises M.E.R.C. that he will be de-magnetized after this as Miles' Lazerang sticks to M.E.R.C.

Admirals Watson and Crick inform the Callistos that an asteroid is about to crash into Planet Erenjoy, where they have a TTA outpost. Crick is not relaxed, even when Watson tries to do so with a relax-atron. Watson continues that the asteroid will go kapowski if it is not stopped. Phoebe then accepts the mission. The Callistos then set course for the asteroid, and come across a large asteroid field. M.E.R.C. is impressed by them until he becomes magnetized to the control panel. Leo tries to pilot the ship, then tries to free himself from M.E.R.C.'s magnetic field. Afterwards, Leo tells him that he needs to be de-magnetizes soon, as M.E.R.C. is stuck with Leo's Questcom. The Stellosphere then arrives at the asteroid, and the Callistos head out to the observatory.

Miles is surprised about how large the asteroid is, and Phoebe decides for the Callistos to divert the asteroid with a few Flash Beam shots. Loretta finds out through her Bracelex that the asteroid is 3.5 miles wide and made almost entirely of metal. As a result, M.E.R.C. gets magnetized into the asteroid. Leo then changes plans, stating that they have to save M.E.R.C. Since the force holding M.E.R.C. to the asteroid is very strong for anyone to pull him free, Loretta wonders if they can have a bigger magnet. Miles calls Loretta a genius, and comes up with an idea of turning the Stellosphere into a giant magnet, since the outside of the ship is made mostly of metal. Miles also says that the Callistos can use it to get M.E.R.C. back. They then head back to the bridge, and Miles tells M.E.R.C. that they will be right back to get him.

The Stellosphere then enters the interstellar dust cloud, and after Leo dodges a few asteroid, the ship exits the cloud. The test works, as some asteroids become magnetized to the Stellosphere. The ship arrives at the asteroid and M.E.R.C., who gets magnetized into the ship. Loretta then finds out that the asteroid is changing course by itself, and wonders why. Miles states that regardless, the Callistos diverted the asteroid and saved M.E.R.C.

However, after the Stellosphere leaves, the asteroid is following it. This is because the ship is too strong of a magnet, which is attracting anything that is metal, including the asteroid. Phoebe has an idea of de-magnetizing the ship, and asks Stella to find a magnetic field opposite to them. She also says that if they get near enough, the magnetism will be canceled out. After Stella begins the search, Leo brings the Stellosphere to top speed. Later, the Tomorrowland mail shuttle gets magnetized to the Stellosphere, and Mr. Xylon calls the Callistos. Phoebe tells him that they will take care of it. Just then, Stella tells the Callistos that they are in close proximity to a magnetar. Loretta finds out that magnetars have extremely powerful magnetic fields, one of the strongest in the universe. Phoebe says that that is what they need to de-magnetize their ship, and plots a course towards the nearest one.

After the Stellosphere dodges more asteroids, it arrives at a magnetar. After getting close enough, its magnetism is canceled out, detaching everything stuck to the ship, including M.E.R.C., who gets in the hangar. Mr. Xylon also thanks the Callistos for the ride. Leo then takes the ship through a hole of the asteroid, which gets sucked into the magnetar and goes kapowski. Phoebe will tell the Admirals that the asteroid is taken care of. M.E.R.C. then reunites with Miles, who wants to test something out. Miles picks the space junk he found, and it no longer sticks to M.E.R.C., who is no longer a magnet. Miles tells M.E.R.C. that from now on, M.E.R.C. will only stick to Miles.
