Lupita Amondi Nyong'o is an actress and filmmaker of dual Kenyan and Mexican citizenship. She is best known for her performance as Patsey in Steve McQueen's critically acclaimed historical drama 12 Years a Slave (2013) for which she earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
For Disney, she portrays Maz Kanata via Motion capture, in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the 2017 film Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the 2017 television series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and she provides the voice of Raksha in the 2016 live-action film adaptation of The Jungle Book. She also plays Harriet Mutesi in Queen of Katwe, and Nakia in the 2018 Marvel superhero film Black Panther.
