Joseph Hill "Joss" Whedon (born June 23, 1964) is an American screenwriter, executive producer, film and television director, comic book writer, occasional composer, actor, and the founder of Mutant Enemy Productions and co-creator of Bellwether Pictures who is also best known for being the creator and the showrunner of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer (starring Sarah Michelle Gellar) from 1997 to 2003, its spin-off Angel (starring David Boreanaz) from 1999 to 2004 and the Fox space western television series Firefly in 2002.

He served as the screenwriter of the 1995 Disney/Pixar film Toy Story and the treatment of the 2001 Disney animated film Atlantis: The Lost Empire. He also wrote the lyrics to the song, My Lullaby, for the direct-to-video feature, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, and received an Annie Award nomination for it. He also became well known for directing and writing the 2012 Marvel superhero film The Avengers, its 2015 sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron and the spinoff series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
