Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (August 28, 1749 - March 22, 1832) was a German writer, artist and politician famous for writing the poem, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which became a symphonic poem when Paul Dukas wrote music for it and was adapted by Disney in the Mickey Mouse short by the same name in 1940's Fantasia and further adapted in the 2010 eponymous film starring Nicholas Cage. He also wrote the original version of The Pied Piper of Hamelin.
