Alicia Christian "Jodie" Foster is an American actress, film director, and producer, who played Samantha in the 1972 Disney family adventure drama film Napoleon and Samantha, Martha McIver in the 1973 Disney western film One Little Indian, Annabel Andrews in the 1976 Disney comedy film Freaky Friday, and Casey Brown in the 1977 Disney family film Candleshoe. She also played Kyle Pratt in the 2005 Touchstone Pictures film Flightplan.

Foster began her professional career as a child model when she was three years old, and she made her acting debut in 1968 in the television sitcom Mayberry R.F.D. She soon found roles in films, like Tom Sawyer, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Taxi Driver, Bugsy Malone, The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, Carny, and Foxes.

After attending college at Yale, Foster struggled to transition into adult roles until she gained critical acclaim in the legal drama The Accused for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. She won her second Academy Award three years later for the psychological horror film The Silence of the Lambs. She continued act in other films, like Nell, Sommersby, Maverick, Contact, Anna and the King, Nim's Island, Panic Room, Inside Man, and The Brave One.

Foster made her debut as a film director in 1991 with Little Man Tate, she continued more heavily with directed in the 2010s with films, like The Beaver, Home for the Holidays, Money Monster, as well as episodes for the Netflix television series Orange Is the New Black, House of Cards, and Black Mirror.
