"Jiminy Cricket" is the eighth episode of House of Mouse, it originally aired on ABC on March 10, 2001.

Summary[]

Jiminy Cricket quits his job as Pinocchio's conscience after Pain and Panic separate Pinocchio from Jiminy. When Mickey says he'll do anything to help, the Blue Fairy makes Jiminy his conscience, much to his annoyance. Jiminy soon starts making Mickey dress like and even act like Pinocchio, to the point that Mickey's nose grows when he tells lies. Mickey quickly realizes that Pinocchio and Jiminy have to get back together and he and Minnie has to figure out how to do it, mostly he was able to get back with Pinocchio by telling everybody life lessons. Aladdin, Cruella and Hercules all want Jiminy, but Pinocchio steps in and reunites with Jiminy.

Running gags[]

Episode introduction "Direct from downtown Main Street, it's Disney's House of Mouse!"
Mickey introduction "And now, Meeska, Mooska: Mickey Mouse!"
Sponsor "Temporary employment services for the House of Mouse provided by: Pain & Panic"
Closing line "That's it, everybody! See ya real soon!"

Trivia[]

  • The entire plot point of this episode where Jiminy Cricket quits his job as Pinocchio's conscience after Pain and Panic separate Pinocchio from Jiminy could be a nod to the original Pinocchio film where Jiminy threatens to quit his job as Pinocchio's conscience after Lampwick negatively influences Pinocchio to do numerous bad deeds while at Pleasure Island such as smoking, drinking alcohol and playing pool, only to change his mind upon finding out the truth of The Coachman's evil plan to turn all the boys on Pleasure Island into donkeys to be sold off for hard labor. Interestingly, Lampwick also makes a brief cameo in this episode with Honest John and Gideon.
  • Microphone Mike's lines before Mickey was introduced was "Meeska, Mooska, Mickey Mouse!", which later became the magic words to open up the clubhouse in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
  • In beginning of the episode an instrumental of Cruella De Vil plays while Mickey is commenting on her driving.
  • When You Wish Upon a Star play as a recurring theme throughout the episode.
  • The Blue Fairy clearly made a blunder with making Jiminy a conscience for Mickey. (Jiminy acted the exact opposite, making Mickey do ridiculous things and make a fool of himself.)
    • However, this may have been intentional as a way to tell Pinocchio that Jiminy misses him.
  • Mickey's line "Well, at least I've got no strings" refers to the song of the same name.
  • Quasimodo was used as an example of someone who wouldn't find someone special, but he ironically would in the form of Madellaine in The Hunchback of Notre Dame II.
  • Scar makes two cameos:
    • He first appears when Jiminy points him out as a test of temptation when he mentions "Avoid anyone who has an evil laugh, a sinister smile or a devilish look and not necessarily in that order."
    • Lastly, he appears in the group of characters that see Pinocchio reconcile with Jiminy Cricket.
