Jennifer Love Hewitt is an American actress, singer-songwriter, film and television producer, and director. She rose to fame in teenage popular culture for her roles as Sarah Reeves-Merrin in the Fox teen drama series Party of Five (19952000), as well as Julie Nicole James in the 1997 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer and its 1998 sequel. She is also well-known for playing Melinda Gordon in the CBS supernatural drama series Ghost Whisperer (20052010), Riley Parks in the Lifetime drama series The Client List (20122013), Kate Callahan in the CBS crime drama series Criminal Minds (20142015), and Dr. Liz Wilson in the live-action Garfield films.

For Disney, she played Robin in Kids Incorporated (seasons 6–7) and voiced Medusa in the Hercules episode "Hercules and the Gorgon" and Madellaine in the 2002 direct-to-video film The Hunchback of Notre Dame II. Although Madellaine doesn't sing in the sequel film, Hewitt sings "I'm Gonna Love You" for the end credits, possibly in Madellaine's point-of-view. She also voiced Thumbelina in the 2002 Miramax animated fantasy film The Adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina and herself in The Weekenders. Additionally, she portrayed Margaret in the 1993 Touchstone Pictures film Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Jennifer Love Fefferman (a likely parody of herself) in Boy Meets World.

Hewitt was born in Waco, Texas, to Patricia Mae (née Shipp), a speech-language pathologist, and Herbert Daniel Hewitt, a medical technician. She grew up in Nolanville in Central Texas, and has close kinship ties in parts of Arkansas. After their parents divorced, Hewitt and her older brother Todd were raised by their mother. As a toddler, Hewitt was attracted to music, which led to her first encounters with the entertainment industry. At age three, she sang "The Greatest Love of All" at a livestock show. The following year, at a restaurant/dance hall, she entertained an audience with her version of "Help Me Make It Through the Night". By age five, she had tap dancing and ballet in her portfolio. At nine, she became a member of the Texas Show Team, which also toured the Soviet Union.
