Jacoby's Junk is a location featured in the 2007 video game Meet the Robinsons, based on the 2005 book A Day with Wilbur Robinson by William Joyce and the 2007 Disney animated film of the same name. It is a large junkyard owned by Jacoby, a friend of the Robinson family, who collects various items from different periods. The junkyard is located in the Industrial District of Todayland and is guarded by a giant speaker that blasts loud music to deter intruders.
Background[]
In the game, the protagonist Lewis Robinson, a young inventor from the past, travels to the future with Wilbur Robinson, his future son, to stop the Bowler Hat Guy, a villain who stole Lewis' memory scanner and altered the timeline. Lewis and Wilbur visit Jacoby's Junk to find a hidden time machine that Wilbur left there for emergencies. However, they encounter a swarm of robotic ants that attack them and have to use Lewis' inventions to fight them off and reach the time machine. Jacoby's Junk is also the setting of one of the mini-games in the game, where the player has to collect as many items as possible from the junkyard within a time limit while avoiding the ants and other obstacles. The items collected can be used to unlock concept art and other bonuses in the game.
Trivia[]
- Jacoby's Junk is a homage to the works of American artist Robert Rauschenberg, who was known for creating "combines", which were artworks that incorporated everyday objects and materials.
- The junkyard features various references to Rauschenberg's pieces, such as a stuffed goat, a tire, a quilt, and a parasol.
- The game's developers stated that they wanted to create a visually rich and diverse environment that would contrast with the sleek and futuristic cityscape of the Robinsons' world.
