"I'm Odd" is a song that was originally planned to have been sung by the Cheshire Cat in Disney's 1951 animated feature, Alice in Wonderland. Also it was recorded on September 28, 1949.
Replacement and Rediscovery[]
However, the song was scrapped in favor of "Twas Brillig", since the idea of putting the actual Jabberwock in the film had already been scrapped and Walt Disney wanted at least part of the poem in the movie. The song was rediscovered in the vaults just in time to be recorded (sung by Jim Cummings in place of the late Sterling Holloway) and placed as a special feature in the Alice in Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition DVD and the 60th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray (under the category "Classic DVD Bonus Features").
The music was written by Sammy Fain, with lyrics by Bob Hilliard. The arranger of the music for the DVD is unknown.
Lyrics[]
Alice: (spoken) Oh!
Cheshire Cat: My head begins to jingle, most ev'ry time I nod,
'cause obviously, quite obviously, I'm odd!
Each Christmas I go fishing, to catch a Christmas cod
'cause obviously, quite obviously, I'm odd!
When I was just a kitten, they said I'd be a gem
but now that I'm a Cheshire Cat, it's odd how odd I am
I own a feather pillow, but I slumber on the sod,
'cause obviously, quite obviously, I'm odd!
(instrumental break)
When I was just a kitten, they said I'd be a gem!
But now that I'm a Cheshire Cat, it's odd how odd I am...
Most cats have handsome whiskers, but me, I've got a beard
'Cause obviously... quite obviously!... I'm weird!
