Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, is the villain of Hercules. Jealous of Zeus' status as ruler of Mount Olympus, he attempts to steal his brother's throne.
Hades tries to take over Mt. Olympus by consulting the Fates. They tell him that when the planets align eighteen years later, Hades will unleash the horrible Titans and that they would lead him to victory. However, if Hercules fought, Hades would fail.
Hades decides to nipp the Hercules threat in the bud by having Pain and Panic feed Hercules a potion that will make him mortal. The major flaw in Hades's scheme is that Hercules doesn't drink the last drop of the potion meaning he still regained his godlike strength. When Hades discovered Hercules was still alive, he first fried Pain and Panic and then let out horrible monsters such as the Hydra, Nessus, and others.
When Hades discovers that Hercules could not be defeated by his monsters, he sends out Megera to find Hercules's weakness. She falls in love with Hercules on their date and forgets about the mission, simply saying that he has no weakness. Hades deducts that Hercules's love for Megera is his weakness and uses her to trick Hercules into giving up his godlike strength for Meg's savety. Hercules agrees, and Hades, knowing Hercules will not enterfier, unleashes the Titans but sends the Cyclops to make sure Hercules dies.
During the Cyclops's attack on Hercules, a pillar falls on Meg and Hercules regains his strength because Hades promised she wouldn't get hurt. The Cyclops is defeated and Hercules races to Olypus and destroys the Titans and kicks Hades out. However, Hades has a trump card, Meg is dying and the dead go to his Underworld.
Hercules storms into the Underworld, disposes of Cerberus, and demands that Hades lets Meg go. Hades tells him that if he wants her, he has to go into the River Styx and save her. Going into the Styx however, will cause the person who goes in to die. Hades waits for the big moment when his arch rival dies, but it didn't come. Hercules sacrificed himself to save Mag so he was then an immortal god. Hercules then punches Hades into the Styx were he was apparently imprisoned for all eternity.
