"Gummi Dearest" is the second segment of the twenty-ninth episode of the Adventures of the Gummi Bears. It premiered on December 19, 1987, and was later paired with "Mirthy Me", becoming the second segment of the eighth and final episode in the third season.
Plot[]
After the egg of a griffin rolls free, Cubbi gets mistaken for the baby, whilst Gruffi has to deal with the Mervyn, the actual baby griffin who thinks that Gruffi is his father.
Can Gruffi and Cubbi make the switch without facing the wrath of the mother griffin?
Cast[]
- Corey Burton as Gruffi Gummi
- Noelle North as Cubbi Gummi
- Frank Welker as Griffin, Mervyns
Trivia[]
- The title is a reference to the 1981 film Mommie Dearest.
- Gruffi referring to baby griffins as "Mervyns", is a playful reference to American television show host and media mogul Merv Griffin, whose full name was "Mervyn Edward Griffin Jr."
- Will Ryan, Michael Rye, Christian Jacobs, and Bill Scott are all credited as voice talent, without any apparent involvement in the episode, or its sibling segment "Mirthy Me".
- This is the twelfth episode to premiere separately from its sibling segment, which had aired the previous week. Both segments were later combined, as originally intended, for all subsequent airings.
- This is also the last episode of the series to be released on DVD, as a "Volume 2" set never made it to home video. The three subsequent seasons saw a digital release on Disney+, beginning in 2019.
