"Green-Eyed Monster" is the 4th episode of the second season of Pepper Ann. It aired on September 19, 1998.

Synopsis[]

Pepper Ann becomes jealous when her chance at being the most popular girl in school is usurped by a new girl named Amber O'Malley. Meanwhile, Principal Hickey investigates a string of locker thefts.

Plot[]

Trinket, Tessa and Vanessa tearfully see Cissy off who is spending the week at Cheerleading Camp. Pepper Ann is happy because as Cissy was considered the most popular girl at Hazelnut Middle School, she believes that this will be her chance to take her spot and tries to get Nicky and Milo to help her achieve this. As Principal Hickey announces his intent to catch a locker thief, he introduces a new student named Amber O'Malley, who has a perfect smile and a likeable personality that immediately wins the favor of her peers, making Pepper Ann jealous.

Amber begins to steal Pepper Ann's thunder by showing her multi-talented abilities in science, art and sports. Pepper Ann's reflection tells her that she is clearly growing jealous despite her denial and she resolves to throw a party so that she can invite all of her friends. However, she learns that Amber is also throwing a party on the same day with even Milo and Nicky going. Despite Amber's suggestion of combining parties, Pepper Ann refuses and has an unfortunately mundane and guestless party at home. Fueled by Dieter showing up and admitting he went to the wrong house, Pepper Ann phones Hickey claiming that Amber is the locker thief.

Pepper Ann arrives at Amber's more luxurious party, only for Hickey to arrive with the news of Amber being the locker thief. As Amber begins to cry over the accusation, Pepper Ann confesses that she made it up because she was jealous. Amber forgives Pepper Ann, but as she leaves, she accidentally opens a closet that reveals that Amber was the thief after all (further admitting that she is just a klepto). The guests leave until Craig Bean suggests going to Pepper Ann's house to continue the party, much to everyone's delight. Pepper Ann tries to confirm that she is no longer jealous until she sees Trinket talking to Craig, though Nicky brings her back to reality.

Trivia[]

  • A literal Green-Eyed Monster appeared in Pepper Ann's contemporary series Quack Pack.
  • The lead member of the Cha Cha Kings is named Carlos, but later Lydia refers to him as Guillermo while the credits call him Vittorio.
  • When Principal Hickey barges into the party, one of the Cha Cha Kings exclaims, "They are coming for you Carlos!", forcing the other member to backflip out of the party. This moment implies that Carlos might be an illegal immigrant.
