Golden Screams was an attraction during Halloween Time at Disney California Adventure. This show featured a lot of Disney Villains. The show's award, the Chernabog statuette, is given to a member (specifically a child) from the audience who makes the loudest scream.
First, the Night on Bald Mountain clip from Fantasia shows on the big movie screen. Then, the announcer welcomes the audience to the show and introduces the show's host, Upton O'Good. Upton then introduces a clip from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs where the Evil Queen transforms into a hag. Next, a montage of villains shows up. In 2006, there was a montage of classic villains, ranging from The Evil Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Madame Medusa in The Rescuers. In 2007, a montage of modern villains was shown, ranging from Horned King in The Black Cauldron to Alameda Slim in Home on the Range.
After the montage, Upton asks the Magic Mirror for advise to find the fiercest villain of all. The Mirror suggests to reveal some by choice. Each nominee Upton chooses shows a clip showing each villain's scream. After 6 nominees were chosen, they were put together in a set of that number. The audience votes for a villain by letting out screams when an image of each nominee enlarges. In 2006, the nominees include the Queen of Hearts, Captain Hook, Stromboli, Madame Medusa, the Queen as a hag, and Maleficent. In 2007, the nominees were Shan Yu, Clayton, Claude Frollo, Ursula, Hades, and Gaston.
When the screaming vote is done, Upton is given a mini-mirror by a cast member so he can reveal which member from the audience had the loudest scream. Specifically, a child is selected and gets to let out his or her scream in front of the audience. Then out of nowhere (nominee or not), a costumed character villain points out the child is not a villain. Upton proves it by asking the audience if the child is crafty, scheming, and nefarious and having him or her take the Honorary Villain's Oath (in which the child vows to scream like each villain nominee). Finally, the child is awarded with his or her very own Chernabog statuette, the show's primary award, and Upton bids farewell to the audience.
