"Yuri's Night" is the first segment of the fifteenth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on July 3, 2015, alongside "I, Stella".

Plot[]

Miles questions Stella if the Callistos are at the Tethoscape, but Stella says not yet. The Callistos then tell Miles that he will love the party on the Tethoscape, which Loretta says is "so Yuri". By that, Phoebe and Leo explain that Yuri Gagarin was the first human in space, and when something is "Yuri", it means it is incredible, unexpected, and very special, like Yuri himself. This is the reason why every April 12, the day Yuri launched, there are parties all over the galaxy. Stella then informs the Callistos that they have arrived on the Tethoscape. Miles, Loretta, and M.E.R.C. question what they should do there, and Leo says that they can do whatever they want if they are done before the quantum fireworks show. The fireworks blast the exact moment Yuri went into space. Just then, Stella informs the Callistos of a call from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, which upsets Miles and Loretta. Phoebe and Leo say that their missions always come first, and promise that as soon as they are done, they will get back to the party.

Admirals Watson and Crick then inform the Callistos of their latest mission: escort a very important guest to the Tethoscape for the party, that being Bootjet Groovestar, who is Miles, Watson, and Crick's favorite musician. The Admirals arranged for him to perform at Yuri's Night during the quantum fireworks show, but his starship had a mechanical breakdown, and he needs a lift to the Tethoscape. The Callistos accept the mission, making Yuri's night more exciting to them. They then set course for Bootjet's starship.

Once there, they find out that the ship is overheating, which means it is going to explode. Phoebe then calls Bootjet, informing him to come aboard on the Stellosphere immediately while Miles and Loretta head to the hangar. Leo activates the safety shield, and Bootjet heads through the space tunnel into the Stellosphere's hangar just as his ship explodes. Miles is only worried because his ship blew up, but Bootjet says he has six more back at home.

Miles and Loretta then take Bootjet to the bridge, while introducing themselves to him. Once at the bridge, Bootjet thanks Callistos for the rescue, and promises them to get him to the Tethoscape in time for the concert. Bootjet then tells the bad news: his gear was blown up along with his starship, so the Callistos then set course for his home planet, the Funkodrome, to pick up his backup gear. Included in the backup gear is three sets of Bootjet's rocket boots. Loretta then informs everyone that the concert starts in less than thirty minutes. The Callistos then set course for the Tethoscape, but are caught by a Dethalian starship. Leo and Phoebe explain that since Dethalians are not the nicest aliens in the galaxy, the Stellosphere is caught in their tow beam. A Dethalian guard calls them, informing them that their starship is being boarded. Two more guards arrive, informing everyone that they have orders to lock them up. Bootjet tells them that he is going to miss his concert, and when Miles says that it is the Bootjet Groovestar concert for Yuri's Night, this changes the guards' moods, saying that they love him. After the two ask him to do some favors, they ask him to take them with him, stating that they can help with anything he wants. Bootjet accepts, and one of the guards informs Julius to tell Queen Gemma that they are taking a long lunch break. Loretta informs everyone that the concert starts in less than ten minutes, and Leo shifts all power to main engines, stating that this is the only way to get there in time. Bootjet then decides to charge up his instruments before the Stellosphere sets course for the Tethoscape.

There, Admirals Watson and Crick are hoping the Callistos and Bootjet get here soon. Just as the Stellosphere gets close, it suddenly stops. Stella reveals that she was forced to do so as a precautionary measure because power systems have been overloaded. Leo explains that this happened because the instruments drained all the power from the Stellosphere. This means the Callistos are stuck and cannot call for help. When questioned by Miles if they can use the Star Jetter or the Photon Flyer, Leo says that those vehicles were plugged in and charging, so they will be fried too. Just as Phoebe decides they are not going to make it in time for the concert, Miles says that it is Yuri's Night, which also means that Yuri never gave up, no matter how impossible things seemed, and the Callistos should never give up, as well. Miles comes up with an idea of using his Blastboard and M.E.R.C.'s boosters to tow the Stellosphere to the Tethoscape.

The plan does not work, and just as Miles and M.E.R.C. decide to give up, Bootjet and the Dethalian guards appear with Bootjet's rocket boots, providing enough power, combined with Miles and M.E.R.C.'s, to pull the Stellosphere to the Tethoscape. Miles then informs Phoebe to meet them inside the Tethoscape while Miles brings Bootjet to the stage. Bootjet then congratulates Miles for getting him there. At the concert, the Admirals are excited that the Callistos are finally there, and introduce Bootjet, who informs the crowd that the Callistos know the true meaning of Yuri's Night. Bootjet then performs for the crowd, with Miles joining in. The performance continues just as the quantum fireworks blast off from outside the Tethoscape.

Trivia[]

  • Yuri's Night refers to April 12, the anniversary of Vostok 1, on which Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human in space on that day in 1961. It was also the day the first American space shuttle (Columbia) was launched in 1981.
  • This is the second time the Stellosphere gets caught in a tow beam by a Dethalian ship. The first was in Game On.
  • The song that Bootjet Groovestar performs for the crowd, "Launch this Funk", can be heard in the end credits of the episode. This is the first time in the series that the shortened and instrumental version of the show's theme song, "Way Out", does not play in the end credits.
