Family[]

Ariel[]

Ariel is Melody's mother. Melody and Ariel have a strong loving mother-daughter relationship. Ariel was overprotective of her because of Morgana's threat when Melody was a baby. Ariel wanted to keep all the knowledge of Atlantica from Melody until Morgana is found. Melody's love of the sea proves too strong. As a result, she severs all ties with Atlantica and the ocean in hopes of preventing Morgana from using Melody's heritage to her advantage.

Ariel knew that she shouldn't have kept Melody from the sea and that the sea is a part of her and her daughter. Ariel tried to stop Melody from giving the trident to Morgana, but Melody refuses to forgive her for keeping the truth from her. Morgana tells Melody that Ariel is trying to protect her from her. After the defeat of Morgana, Melody reunites with her parents.

Ariel comforts her daughter and apologizes truly for the incident for not telling her the truth sooner. Melody explains she never meant to hurt anyone, but believed she would be better as a mermaid than a girl. However, Ariel assures her daughter that it doesn't matter whether she has fins or feet, as she and Eric love Melody for who she is, their "brave little girl". Then Melody finally accepted who she is.

Eric[]

Eric is Melody's father. Unlike Ariel, Eric did not support her decision to keep Melody's mermaid heritage a secret from her or not tell her the reason why she is not allowed in the sea, as he believed they should have just told her daughter the truth; regarding her mermaid heritage and the reason why she is not allowed in the sea, not keep her in the dark about it.

Eric believes that Melody is old enough to deserve an explanation and that withholding all the answers to her questions has done more harm than good, at which point Ariel realizes that she is making the same mistake as Triton once did with her and decides to tell Melody the truth.

Eric convinced Ariel that she knows the waters and they're daughter. After Morgana's defeat, Eric carries his daughter and said to her that he was so afraid they almost had her lost.

King Triton[]

King Triton is Melody's maternal grandfather. Triton met Melody when she was a baby. After 12 years, she didn't know this after being banned from the sea. In Atlantica, Melody saw him in surprise and thinks he doesn't look like a thief. Morgana revealed the truth about Melody's connection to Atlantica and Triton.

Melody got the trident back from Morgana and threw it to Triton, after the defeat of Morgana, Triton and Melody then officially meet and Melody immediately hugs her grandpa, delighted to finally get to know him. Triton feels that Melody has earned the right to decide which world she wants to belong to, is his granddaughter and a child of two different worlds.

Romance[]

Alex[]

Alex is the love interest of Melody since she immediately develops a crush on him from the moment they met. When they first met, Melody was shy while talking to Alex. During the song "Here on the Land and Sea", they both have met each other again.

Sebastian[]

Sometime after Melody was born, Sebastian was told that Ariel had given birth to a girl whom she wants to raise between the worlds of land and sea. On the day that the two worlds came together to celebrate Melody meeting the people of the sea for the first time, baby Melody notices Sebastian pup out of the water and giggles in excitement.

Seeing that the human baby is happy to see him, Sebastian smiles at her. When Ursula's sister, Morgana attacks the party so she could use Melody in her plan to get the trident from the sea king, Sebastian hid until her foiled plan forces Morgana to retreat while promising to go after Melody again.

Because of this, Ariel decides to raise away from the sea until Morgana is caught and before King Triton leaves Melody and her surface world family, he orders Sebastian to keep an eye on Melody. Which the crab wasn't happy about, as it is very similar to one of him keeping an eye on Ariel, but knew that he'll have to follow the order through.

While Melody was raised as a normal girl who was made to believe that mermaids weren't real or that her mother was once one, Ariel's mermaid origins allow Melody to have the ability to understand Sebastian and other sea animals. Like he did with Ariel and her secret grotto, Sebastian keeps Melody's secret drives and the items she collects from the ocean a secret from her mother. Since Sebastian couldn't tell Melody the fact that she is just like her mother until her parents finally decide to tell their daughter the truth.

Until then Sebastian does what he can to keep Melody company, allows Melody to share her thoughts about her secret with him and that her love for the sea doesn't get her in trouble when one of her drives makes Melody late for her birthday party that Sebastian reminds her of.

When Sebastian hears some of the surface world's children say bad things about Melody for being different from them, he feels sorry for her as they sneak back into Melody's room. Because Melody was in a rush to get ready before her mother arrivals up steers, she unknowingly ties Sebastian to her dress while he was still hanging onto the ribbon.

Melody became aware of this when her dancing partner places his hand on her while Sebastian was trying to free himself. After the crab hands in Melody's birthday cake, she asks the upset Sebastian if he is all right, but her talking to him in public gets half of the room to laugh at Melody for talking to a crab.

Shortly after a fight with Ariel, Sebastian sees that Melody is really angry and tries to cheer her up with the fact that people change as they grow, but Melody was too focused on her need for answers about the magical lock she found. Sebastian tried to stop Melody from running away on the open sea but failed, feeling bad for failing to keep Melody safe, he bursts into tears as he tells Ariel and Eric that Melody has run away.

Triton is informed of this and, after turning Ariel back into a mermaid, the team takes the search into the waters. Eventually, the family finds themselves battling Morgana at the sea witch's lair. She soon meets her defeat at the hands of Melody, and with her out of the way, peace can be restored to land and sea, much to Sebastian's delight.

Tip and Dash[]

Tip and Dash are the inspiring hero penguin and walrus who Melody meets on her way to Atlantica. Because she no longer has the map to it she asks the two for their help to guide her there, even Tip didn't want to help Melody once he learns that she is a human, who was turned into a mermaid, Dash convinces Tip to help Melody as she is someone in need of their help. Upon seeing Melody's kind and pleading smiley face, an encouraged Tip agrees to help her too. While on their way to Atlantica, Tip and Dash bond with Melody singing and swimming away with their love for adventure, which they became friends.

As Melody, Tip and Dash approach Morgana's Artic lair with the trident she took from her grandfather (who doesn't know he is, believing Morgana's manipulative misguidance), Tip admits to her that they and Dash make quite a team, with Dash adding that once Melody's a permanent mermaid like Morgana falsely promised, they will be friends forever. After Undertow purposely scared off Tip and Dash, Melody showed concern for her new friends, but Undertow convinces her to forget about them while he calls them "yellow-bellied sea slugs" for their cowardice, considering that he also claimed that her desire to become a permanent mermaid is more important, despite her actual confusement of the matter.

After lamenting on their cowardice, as well being fed-up with it, upon seeing what's going on at Morgana's lair (of Morgana starting her evil reign on the seas now she has the trident), as well as knowing that their only friend is in trouble, they put their courage to the test to see if they can really become heroes like they always wanted to be, by finding and saving Melody. They proved their heroism when they bravely faced the giant restored Undertwo, considerably that they caused him to accidently break Melody's ice prison, which gave them the opportunity to get Melody back up to the surface with Flounder's help before she drowned from being turned back into a human. When Morgana uses the trident's power to make all mer-folk and sea creatures, including Tip and Dash, bow down to her, it was Melody's turn to save everyone from the sea-witch in order to fix her mis-lead mistakes, by getting the trident away from Morgana and giving it back to her grandfather. When Tip and Dash saw Melody falling from the icicle fortress who had been pushed off by Morgana, Dash rushed to Melody's rescue by using his body a landing cushion to break her fall, although she passes out from the stress and shock. Upon Morgana's defeat at the hands of Triton, who used the trident to encase her in a block of ice then sunk to the ocean's depths, the icicle fortress collapses, with Tip pushing Dash with the unconscious Melody away from the collapsing fortress.

When Melody uses the trident to disintegrate the wall separating her home from the sea reuniting the two worlds of land and sea together, all inhabitants from both sides musically celebrate in unison, including Tip and Dash celebrates with Melody first, followed by everyone else afterward.

Enemies[]

Morgana[]

Morgana is Melody's enemy. During Melody's christening as a baby, she was captured by Morgana and used by her as a threat to Undertow if Triton doesn't give her the trident. After 12 years, the orbs light shines and Morgana goes and sees Melody holding her locket. They both get an idea. They decide they will use Melody as the tool for Triton's undoing.

Morgana welcomes Melody to her lair, offering repulsive food, and reveals the secret of the locket. She then transforms Melody into a mermaid with Ursula's last magic potion that Morgana's been saving for a special occasion.

Melody arrives back to Morgana's lair to thank her. After being thanked by Melody, Morgana sets the rest of her plan in motion by falsely crying. Morgana reveals that the mermaid spell is temporary. Morgana lies to Melody that "her" trident was "stolen" by a "deranged kleptomaniac" (she's referring to King Triton and his trident) and that "there is no one left to give it back for her". Melody tells Morgana that maybe she could get it back for her. Morgana acts surprised. She shows Melody a map and where the "scoundrel" lives.

Melody asks if she means that it wasn't just "an ordinary fish tale" and if it really exists. Morgana says "Of course it exists. Whoever told you otherwise?". Melody tells Morgana that her mother did. Morgana responds that she's sure Melody's mother didn't mean to be cruel and deceitful. Melody says that she will bring back her trident and that she can count on her. Morgana says, "Be careful, dear! Enjoy those fins!" Then she says softly with an evil grin "while you can", and chuckles sinisterly.

Just as Melody is about to give Morgana the trident, Ariel shows up and stops her, frantically. Melody is angry and shocked that Ariel hid the truth about her locket. Morgana and Ariel are trying to convince Melody to give the trident to each other. But Melody, angry at Ariel for hiding the truth about her locket, gives it to Morgana. Morgana cackles maniacally and claims that all the seven seas are at her command. She reveals that Ariel was only trying to protect her from her.

Morgana confesses that she herself tricked Melody into giving the trident to her and that King Triton is really the king and is Melody's grandfather. Melody realizes the truth. Morgana blames Melody for the theft after the girl expresses her anger over the deception stating she brought this upon her herself through the pursuit of her personal desires. Then, she imprisons Melody and Flounder into a part of her lair. She tells Melody that her time as a mermaid has just expired.

Morgana forces all the creatures she sees to bow down to her. Melody realizes that she has to get the trident herself since Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder, Tip and Dash are forced to bow down to Morgana, and Prince Eric has been rendered unconscious. Melody realizes that she has legs and that power of Morgana cannot harm her. Morgana then forces King Triton to bow down.

Morgana looks up at the sky and says to her mother that she has finally won. As Morgana sentences King Triton to oblivion, Melody surprises Morgana by snatching the trident from her. Morgana, eventually tries to take the trident away by tying up one of Melody's feet, she lifts Melody upside down and tries to grab the trident back, but Melody pierces the trident through one of her tentacles, distracting her, and Melody is free. Melody gives the trident back to Triton.

Morgana pushes Melody off the cliff after she throws the trident to Triton, but Dash saves Melody. Triton grabs his trident, says to Morgana, "Never again will you or yours threaten my family. There will be no escape for you! Ever!" and imprisons Morgana in a small iceberg, and she sinks to the depths of the sea to never be seen again.
