"That Stinking Feeling" is the first segment of the thirty-second episode of Recess.
Synopsis[]
Johnny "Baby Tooth" V. leaves an imprint on Spinelli's heart.
Plot[]
The kids are playing maul ball with the fifth graders afraid of Spinelli. After one of their players is taken out, Lawson calls upon Johnny "Baby Tooth" V. to come up and play. The game resumes, but just as Spinelli is about to tackle Johnny, she pauses and the fourth graders end up losing. Spinelli cannot figure out why she stopped and heads to the nurse. After explaining her situation, the nurse chuckles and lets her go. Spinelli returns home and tells her parents what happened and her mother gives her a straight answer: Spinelli is in love.
Spinelli begins to avoid her friends and refuses to explain what she learned. Gretchen uses Galileo to analyze her and discovers that she has a crush on Johnny V. The Gang attempt to hide this, but Randall finds out and spreads the news at lunch. Johnny V. finds out as well and begins to feel terrible. The Gang tell Spinelli that they will do everything they can to keep her reputation and that they will treat her the same, but this quickly turns out to be a lie as they try and be polite around her. Spinelli and Johnny V. continue to avoid one another.
Miss Finster figures out what is happening and approaches Spinelli, telling her that they are loners and should not be concerned with how their emotions affect them and simply push on. Spinelli returns to playing maul ball, scaring Johnny, though Lawson believes that they are at an advantage. Instead, Spinelli charges through and manages to tackle Johnny and wins for the fourth graders. Johnny ends up being relieved as his baby tooth got knocked out and Spinelli regains her reputation.
