For over half of my life, I have loved going to thrift stores. You never know what you will find in one. I have been on the lookout for books and especially VHS tapes. Aside from finding rare tapes at bargain prices as well as shows and movies that you can’t find on DVD, I am also on the lookout for recordings with the label of a show I like that I can’t get every episode of on VHS or DVD. So far, the only tape I’ve ever found like that was a tape marked Disney’s Talespin in 2007, on my 18th birthday. This was after the first DVD volume was released but before the second volume came out. It had 8 episodes on it. 5 were from the first volume, but I got to see 3 new episodes thanks to it. Aside from the 2 part story For Whom The Bell Klangs (which was later released on Volume 2 that year), I got an episode that wasn’t available until Volume 3 was released a year or 2 ago; Destiny Rides Again (which I would rank in the better half of the series or at least the top two-thirds). I also got a bunch of old commercials, some of which I liked. My favorite was this little featurette about Mighty Ducks The Animated Series. As you know from my Disney Afternoon music video, it is one of my top 5 DA series. It was really cool getting a behind the scenes look at it. It’s not much, but since it is so rare to see any sort of special feature like this for a Disney Afternoon series I’m happy with whatever I can find. My favorite part was this exchange.
David Telly: “What’s it’s like watching your characters come to life?”
Joe Barrusso : “There’s nothing more exciting than giving a character a life a personality; making them walk and talk, just, uh out of your imagination.”
Right now my favorite hobby (apart from making music videos) is writing. I hope that someday my stories will be made into an animated series, one that is designed to appeal to both children and adults. I’m working mainly on one, but I have 3 potential spin-off series planned already. I’m not getting ahead of myself; I’m simply thinking that once I finish the series I’m on now I would love to tell the stories of these other characters who show up in one or two episodes because I think they would make good shows.
Anyways, I hope that you enjoy this rare find. I do not own the rights to this or any part of the Mighty Ducks cartoon. They belong to Disney.
