The Star Trader is a store in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. Opened in 1987 alongside Star Tours, the Star Trader mainly offers Star Wars and Disneyland Resort-branded merchandise. A similarly-named Star Wars-themed store, Star Traders Boutique, has operated in Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris since its opening in 1992 .
History[]
Disneyland[]
The space originally opened in 1967 as The Character Shop. Coinciding with the 1987 opening of the adjacent Star Tours, the shop was rethemed to match the attraction's Star Wars theme and renamed Star Trader. With the newly-opened attraction exiting directly into the store's back half, Star Trader has since served as the gift shop to both Star Tours and its present-day iteration, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue.
Like the Character Shop before it, the Star Trader was one of many Tomorrowland offerings through which the PeopleMover traveled. Windows along the attraction's track allowed passengers to preview the Star Trader as it passed above the sales floor. The windows were blacked out following the attraction's closure in 1995, and not reused for its replacement, Rocket Rods.
In 2011, for the remodeling of Star Tours, the X-Wing Fighter that hung in the store in 1987 that had since moved to the Starcade returned to the store. A projection effect was added in place of the former PeopleMover windows, depicting silhouettes of aliens and droids traveling to and from the Star Tours terminal.
