- The episode's title is a play on the 1844 Lydia Maria Child Thanksgiving-themed poem "The New-England Boy's Song about Thanksgiving Day", best known as "Over the River and Through the Wood".
- This is the first of four appearances of the Trolls on the show.
- This is also the first of two appearances of Sir Gawain on the show.
- Tummi, Sunni, and Cubbi appear, but they don't have any lines.
- This episode also contains the first mention of the Gummi city of Ursalia, which would later appear in the season 5 premiere episode "The Road to Ursalia", and continue to play a role in the show's narrative from there on.
- The lady attempting to push the carriage out of the mud, later appears as the Costume Contest Judge in "Dress for Success", albeit with white hair.
- This is the first episode to premiere separately from its sibling segment, which aired the following week. Both segments were later combined, as originally intended, for all subsequent airings.
