Caryn Elaine Johnson, better known by her stage name Whoopi Goldberg, is an American actress, voice actress, comedian, author, and television personality. She is best known for her work in many feature films and TV shows, including Celie Harris Johnson in the 1985 epic period drama film The Color Purple, in which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Leading Actress, and Oda Mae Brown in the 1990 supernatural fantasy film Ghost, in which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She is also well-known for playing Katie Coltrane in the 1996 buddy cop comedy film Theodore Rex, and voicing Stormella, the main antagonist of 1998's Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Movie, Franny the goat in the 2005 sports comedy film Racing Stripes, and Darlin' the baseball bat in the 2006 Fox animated film Everyone's Hero. Additionally, she made special guest appearances on Sesame Street with certain Muppets, including Elmo and Hoots the Owl.

For Disney, she voiced Shenzi in the 1994 Disney animated feature film The Lion King and its 2004 midquel The Lion King 1½. She also voiced Miss Mittens in Snow Buddies and Stretch in the 2010 Disney/Pixar film Toy Story 3. Additionally, she made a cameo as herself in The Muppets. She also posed as the Genie in "Where Your Every Wish is Our Command" in the Disney Dream Portrait Series, and voiced the White Rabbit's wife in the ABC series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Ursula in Descendants 2, although she did not make a physical appearance in the film.

Goldberg guest-starred in Episode 109 of Muppets Tonight. She also played Deloris Van Cartier/Sister Mary Clarence in Sister Act and its 1993 sequel, Mary Masembuko in the 1992 Miramax/Hollywood film Sarafina!, Dr. Vivien Morgan in A Knight in Camelot, Laurel Ayres/Mr. Cutty in The Associate, and Edwina "Eddie" Franklin in Eddie. Additionally, she voiced the GameMaster in Miles from Tomorrowland, Lama in season 2 of Elena of Avalor, [1] and Mother Olm in Amphibia. Since 2007, she has been hosting the ABC talk show The View.

She was named a Disney Legend in 2017, but unlike the others in that class, she wasn't named in advance.

She was seen holding hands with Mickey Mouse in the "Hands Across America" music video.
