Hard Haid Moe is a hillbilly and unlike most other characters in the Donald Duck universe indubitably a human being. Moe was created by Dick Kinney and Al Hubbard. His first appearance was in the story, "It's Music" (1964). In the 1960s and 1970s, he was frequently used in Disney Studios comics, usually as a supporting character for Fethry Duck, one of the very few townspeople ever befriended by Moe. But his relation with Fethry isn't exactly friendly.

Character[]

Moe is and hillibilly character with a long white beard who lives somewhere in Hard Haid Moe lives somewhere on Calisota's countryside with his rather flabby pet dog, Houn' Dawg. Moe is often seen carrying a shotgun.

Moe is grumpy and dislike everthing that comes from th city. He has also a rude behaviour towards the nuisances (practically every other person) and visitor in genral (who chase away with his shotgun).

Printed media[]

Depsite his dissaparence from North American and European comics, Moe became popular in Brazil, where he even had his own title (Urtigão) from 1987 to 1994. Brazilian cartoonists created a permanent female character for Moe's stories, a funny maid called Firmina, who was hired by Moe in the classic Brazilian story, "Uma Intrusa Especiar" (free translation: "An Unusual Newcomer"), and because of her strong and daring personality she's often arguing with Moe, who in turn has a very hard temperament. She became a kind of non-official girlfriend of Moe, including she almost married him.

In Italy (where he's called "Dinamite Bla" ) his appearances has become more frequent during the 2000s (decade) and he has gained a small Italian figurine. The character was characterized by Italian cartoonists with a strong love for turnips and eggplants. Another recurring gag sees him calling not only his animals by name, but also his objects (e.g. his shotgun, Abelarda).

In 2007 Italian authors Fausto Vitalino and Giorgio Cavazzano has created Truz: a dogface rival of Moe in hillbilly (indicated in Italian as "buzzurri" littlerally boor) community near Duckburg.

Italian cartoonist has also created a family tree for Moe, including the character of his intellectual sister Terta (Genoveffa in the italian version), created in 1987 by the Brazilians Renato Canini and Verci de Mello. In 2009, other relatives were created by Roberto Gagnor and Andrea Freccero (such as the sexy female cousin Dinamite Smack and the aunt Spingarda) in the story Dinamite Bla in: Una questione di famiglia e melanzane (litterally Hard Haid Moe: A Family and Eggplant Affair).
